## **1. Introduction** 

CANCER UK-SALONE is committed to delivering meaningful support to service users and their loved ones. The charity's mission is to educate, advocate, and protect the well-being of those affected by cancer while building the capacity of volunteers, healthcare professionals, and allied healthcare professionals. This ensures evidence-based support throughout the service users’ journey. 

## **2. Structure, Governance, and Management** 

CANCER UK-SALONE is governed by a board of five trustees who oversee its operations and strategic direction. The trustees for the reporting period are:

The charity operates under its governing document and follows UK Charity Commission regulations to ensure transparency and accountability. 

There were no changes or additions to the board or leadership team during this period. The existing team continues to provide strategic direction and oversight to ensure the organisation meets its objectives effectively. 

## **3. Objectives and Activities** 

The key objectives and Activities of CANCER UK-SALONE for the reporting period were: 

- Raising awareness about cancer prevention and early detection. 

- Providing support and education for cancer patients and their families. 



- Strengthening healthcare capacity in Sierra Leone and the UK. 

- **Breast Cancer campaign** (UK) 

- Management of Prostate Cancer March discussion, **UK Engagement** 

- Morning Coffee in collaboration with Community Alliance Waltham Cross 19 October 2 **SL Engagements** 

- Payment of breast cancer treatment 3 cycles of chemotherapy including test continues 

- Breast Cancer Conference in collaboration with EBKUST 28 October 

- World Cancer Day in Collaboration with Sierra Leone Cancer Society 04 February 2024 

- Prostate Cancer Awareness and Screening in Three Districts Bo, Freetown and Makeni (Pilot in Freetown) (pilot in Freetown) 

- Prostate Cancer SL Campaign Walk (30 November 2024) 

- Support Diagnostics and Treatment of 20 Prostate Cancer 

- Cancer Awareness and Lifestyle Change in Schools, Academic Institutions and Communities 

- Strengthen Volunteers capacity (setup a forum) 

## **4. Achievements and Performance** 

CANCER UK-SALONE made significant strides in cancer awareness and education. Key achievements include: 

- **Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign** : Conducted in both the UK and Sierra Leone, reaching over 5,000 people. 

- **First Prostate Cancer Walk in Africa (Sierra Leone)** : A groundbreaking initiative that reached over 50,000 people. 

- **Strategic Partnerships** : Established collaborations with major cancer organisations, including; **Prostate Cancer UK** and **Breast Cancer Now (UK)** , Caritas Freetown, Holy Spirit Catholic Hospital Makeni, Ubunt2 Africa 

- Diagnostic Clinic (Freetown) 

- Salpro (Freetown) 



- Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (Makeni Sierra Leone) 

- Well Woman Clinic 

- Grand Lodge of Sierra Leone and The Gambia 

to strengthen awareness and support services. 

## **Challenges Faced** 

Despite our successes, CANCER UK-SALONE faced several challenges, including: 

- Limited funding to expand outreach efforts and provide additional support services. 

- Logistical challenges in organising large-scale events in Sierra Leone. 

- The need for increased collaboration with healthcare institutions for more screening programs.

For the reporting year, the charity’s financial overview is as follows:

The charity has maintained a prudent approach to financial management, ensuring funds are directed towards impactful projects while sustaining operational stability. 

## **6. Plans for Future Periods (2025-2026)** 

Looking ahead, CANCER UK-SALONE aims to expand its reach and impact. The key objectives for the next period include: 

- **Increasing Funding** : Expanding fundraising efforts to secure more financial support. 



- **Raising Awareness** : Strengthening efforts to reach more Black men at risk of prostate cancer and improving recall assessments for women post-routine mammograms. 

- **March for Men** : Strengthen annual prostate cancer awareness walk both in the UK and Sierra Leone 

- **Strengthen collaborations:** with local and international organisations to enhance impact. 

- **Develop educational resources:** to improve cancer knowledge and prevention strategies. 

- **Advocate** : for better cancer policies and healthcare support in Sierra Leone. 

- **New Initiatives:** 

   - **Paediatric Oncology Training** for local healthcare workers in Sierra Leone. 

   - **Prostate Cancer Research/Study** 

   - **Prostate Cancer Screening (PSA)** 

   - **Community Awareness and Screening** programs. 

   - **Child-Friendly Cancer Care Unit** to enhance paediatric oncology care.
