Wolverley Tennis (CIO) Annual Report to Charity Commission for 2024
Wolverley Tennis CIO was set up to allow Wolverley Tennis Club, also known as Wolverley Lawn Tennis Club, to transition to a charitable organisation. As reported in our previous annual report, the process started many years ago and culminated with the current Tennis Charity being set up in 2022. The object of the exercise was that once the charity had been set up, that the assets of the Tennis Club would be transferred into the charity and that ultimately the existing tennis club would close.
However, as the annual report of 2023 outlines, this transition did not take place; Wolverley Memorial Charitable Trust (WMCT) has continued its harassment through 2024 (and into 2025) with solicitors engaged by WMCT continuing to imply that Wolverley Tennis (CIO) is trespassing. It has been pointed out multiple times that it is Wolverley Tennis Club that remains the tenant of the premises and as such lawfully occupies the premises. Wolverley Tennis Club has also written to WMCT confirming this. Nevertheless, WMCT has continued to overlock the gates of the Wolverley Tennis Club and recently (2025) installed CCTV to watch their players causing further distress to its members.
Further WMCT has refused to engage in mediation as recommended by the Charity Commission.
The Trustees continue to welcome constructive dialogue and look forward to help support activity for the benefit of the local population as the opportunities arise.
