DERBY CITY AND DISTRICT TALKING NEWSPAPER ASSOCIATION. REGISTERED CHARITYNo. 1198808 ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2024/2025 

The period since the last AGM has largely been one of continuation and consolidation of our basis of operation, established over the past three years. The major developments over the year have been: changes to the personnel of our operational teams (both admin and readers); changes to our client group AND increased use of our website for communication. 

Last year’s report covered the development and delivery of the first Talking Newspapers website - supported and maintained by the Talking News Federation. The website looks very professional, requires little maintenance and offers us the opportunity to receive online client referrals, information, volunteering enquiries and even donations. Although fully operational by early 2024 it had, by the last AGM, not been greatly utilised by partner organisations, 

this has now changed: 

our new website gives us access to two email accounts (info@derby.mytn.uk and register@derby.mytn.uk) which can be monitored by several members of our team. 

## **Consolidation of our publication strategy** 

Whilst we continually develop the quality/client-relevance of our 4-weekly Local News miscellany – our flagship publication - changes to sources of regular content since last AGM have been relatively minor: We continue to tweak the item choices in the ‘regular features’ section. The content of our miscellany remains largely Derby-focused, but our material also increasingly includes both local news and historical interest material from the whole of Derbyshire. While popular with all our clients, this also reflects the widening range of our coverage in recent years – incorporating clients from both Amber Valley and Matlock Talking Newspapers as well as many others who live outside Derby. 

We continue to combine our Miscellany with three tailored compilations of RNIB material. Our overall package is comprehensive, continues to be well received, and is a lifeline for some of our elderly clients. 

## Clients 

Over the year we have averaged around 100 clients and sent out 1680 memory sticks 

## Staffng 

We currently have 25 Volunteer Readers including a young man who needed to do three months’ volunteering with Derby Talking Newspapers  to qualify for his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. An admin team of eight deal with the duplicating of the recorded messages, preparation for mailing etc. 

**IN CONCLUSION –** This has been another successful year for us. We continue to ‘punch above our weight’ as a TN, operating virtually, with a small team of people working mainly from home, delivering a broad, unique and high-quality range of recorded output.
