CHAIR’S REPORT
Since its founda=on in 2022, the Friends of St Mar=n’s Music (FOSMM) has succeeded in bringing to frui=on its original objec=ves, as outlined in its cons=tu=on.
The trustees have met on six occasions in order to administer the charity and ensure its smooth running. An overview of the trustees’ work this year include:
-
Funding the appointment of four choral scholars and a choral associate for the 2024/5 academic year to the Music Founda=on at St Mar=n in Roath This followed a successful recruitment and audi=on process in the summer of 2024
-
The appointment of an organ student for the Michaelmas Term and the appointment of an organ scholar for the Easter Term
-
Con=nuing the funding for a Conduc=ng Assistant to support the work of the Music Founda=on at St Mar=n in Roath.
-
The recruitment of 34 Friends to support the work of FOSMM
-
contribu=ng to the musical development of choristers and for the wellbeing of the local community and city of Cardiff.
-
Underwri=ng the costs of prin=ng and musical scores purchased for the be`erment of standards, allowing access to the choir for those with visual impairments and to enhance the overall quality of music making at St Mar=n in Roath.
-
Providing funding for solo cantors at midweek and Sunday services, allowing individuals to gain experience of performing and enhancing the musical repertoire offered at St Mar=n’s.
-
Providing the professional accompanist fee for the annual Friends’ concert held in November 2024.
-
Preparing applica=ons to other trusts and Grant making organisa=ons to raise addi=onal funds for the con=nuing work of FOSMM
would be unable to fulfil its objec=ves. It is clear that FOSMM has made a posi=ve impact on the musical life of St Mar=n in Roath and is in a strong posi=on to con=nue doing so.

FINANCIAL REPORT
The Trustees have considered the requirement to obtain an Independent Examiner’s report for charities whose annual income exceeds £25,000. A decision has been taken that, for transparency and good governance, they will continue employing the services of the existing Independent Examiner notwithstanding that the annual income of the Charity falls below the de minimis for such a report.
