Trustees’ Report
Year ended 31 MARCH 2025
The Trustees present their report and the unaudited financial statements of the charity for the year ending 31 March 2025. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) “Accounting and Reporting by Charities” (FRS 102) “The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland” in preparing the annual report and financial statements of the charity.
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in the notes to the accounts and comply with the charity’s governing document, the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland published in October 2019.

Objectives and activities
The objectives of the charity are to preserve and protect the physical and mental health of babies at risk of developmental challenges by supporting research into their care and treatment and by working collaboratively with parents and healthcare professionals providing resources, advice, and training.
Public benefit statement
In meeting objectives and formulating future plans the Trustees have considered the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. The charity continues to preserve and protect the physical and mental health of babies at risk of developmental challenges by supporting research into their care and treatment and by working collaboratively with parents and healthcare professionals providing resources, advice, and training.
Financial Review
The charity had reserves of £27,256 as of 31 March 2025. As the charity has very limited operating costs the trustees are confident that this is adequate to support planned activities for the coming year.
Structure, governance and management
Ei SMART was registered with the Charity Commission on 21 April 2022 under registered number 1198679. It is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and is governed by its constitution.
The charity is governed by a Board of Trustees which acts in an honorary capacity.

The Trustees administer the charity through the co-thairs of the charity management team. This team of five is supported by a larger foundation team and an expert panel who are consulted periodicallv. The Trustees are appointed through the chariWs Board recruitment procedure. The thèrity seeks va¢ancies based on experience. The charity has no employees. Al team members provide their time voluntarily. Volunteer5 may receive compensation for their time and expenses in sUPPOrting training artivities. Athlevements •nd performance The Ei SMART clinical reasoning framework and the approach to early interwention it promotes continues to grow in content and recognition. Thls past year has been particularly successful In terms of collaboration and forming alliances with Important orqanlsatlons who for all Intents and purposes could be consldered stake holders. As a result of publishing short developmental videos in January 2025 (funded by a grant from the National Lotteryl we were approached by the Institute of Health Visitors who plan to publish our videos for universal use. Bliss is also now workin8 with us to feature our videos on their website as are all the Operatlonal Delivery Networks I"ODN°1s in England. We also published a joint leaflet wlth the 8razelton centre UK on Screen tlme. Furtherniore, we are referenced twlce In the new NHS England publication on best practice in assessment. diagnosis and early intervention for Cerebral Palsy. We have also had several meetings with the Royal Foundation for £arly Childhood development and plan to run a study day wlth thelr Input In 2026. All In all. we have made signlflcant progres5 whllst contlnulng to functlon on a voluntary basls whlch we are now hoplng to address by securlng fundlng from grant applications. Our monthly newsletter now goes to over I.3c readers. and we continue to recelve good feedback about our website and the resources we publish there to help famllles and heah¢are pmfesslonals in early Intervention and supporting early deN*lopment. During the year the charity has continued to provide a series of online study days open to all. We have also delivered a highly rated new in-person course at University College London Hospltals for neonatolo81Sts and paediatricians on supporting development and parents usin8 anticipatory 8uidance In follow up cllnlcs. We 3150 have two new studles under way wlth Unlverslty College London on outcomes for parents followlni the Ei SMART baby course- which Is a 'hands on, course only for theraplsts. Results Should be avallable In the comlng months and we look forward to publishing them. We contlnue to present nationally and internationally and plan to share the work of Ei SMART around the world in the September 2025 newsletter. We continue to consider how we can build relationship5 and networks wlth other Important organlsatlons In the field such a5 the'First 1000 day5. _ we recently submitted a paper following their call for evldence. A major priority for us in this comin8 year is to create funded posts In key areas to allow for the ongoin8 progresslon and sllstainability of Ei SMART. EI SMART Independent Examiner's report Year ended 31 March 2025 Responsibilitie5 and basis of report I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity l-the Trust") for the year ended 31 March 2025. As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 20111"the Acfl. I report in respect of my examination of the TrLJSt's account5 carried out under Section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying Out my examination. I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 1451511bl of the Act. Independent examinerfs statement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect: the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act.. or the accounts did not accord wilh the accounting records.. or the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the fofm and content of accounts set out in the Charities {Accounts and RetM)rtsl Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the account5 give a 'true and fairf view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. Notes to the accounts
1 Basis of preparation
The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant note to these accounts. The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and with the Charities Act 2011.
The charity qualifies as a small charity and has also followed the disclosure requirements for small charities.
2. Accounting policies
2.1 Income
Grants and donations are only included in the SoFA when received.
Income for training activities is recognised when the training is provided.
2.2 Expenditure and liabilities
Liabilities are recognised where it is more likely than not that there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources and the amount of the obligation can be measured with reasonable certainty.
The charity has creditors which are measured at settlement amounts less any trade discounts
No material item of deferred income has been included in the accounts.

In March 2024 Ei SMART received a grant from the National Lottery Community fund of £19,908 to fund the production of videos for parents taking their children home. All other income is unrestricted.

8. Charity funds
Restricted funds represent a National Lottery Grant which was used for the production of neonatal training videos.
9. Transactions with trustees and related parties
None of the trustees have been paid any remuneration or received any other benefits from an employment with their charity or a related entity.
