In October 2019 the Trustees of Cardiff BaptistColLege (then called South Wales Baptist College)
made the decision to convert its status from unincorporated charityto Charit8ble Incorporated
Organisation. There were a number of drivers torthe decision, but most pressingly, a review of the
College's property strategyestablished thatwhile the College owned three on-site buildings, the title
was only registered forthe most recently purchased. As an unincorporated charitythe Co118ge could
not register the land in its own name. CIO status would enable this to happen.
Forsimplicity itwas planned to make the change atthe startof an academic (and financiall year. The
2022 registration led to a programme of wotkto transfer the assets and staff oflhe unincorporaled
charityto the CIO. The transfer of staff required the provision of an equivalent pension arrangement,
the consultation on this and the transfer more generallywas delayed bywider planned changes to the
Baptist Pension Scheme. the providerfor thevast majority of staff. The separate National consultation
on these changes took place during 2023-2024. and the new pension arrangements came into effect
in 2024. The new arrangements made it simplerforTrustees to provide an equivalent pension
arrangement for staff, and so the fineltransfer of assets and staff to the CIO was planned for
September 1st 2024.
