whole.|Para 1.20|MPCG became a charity in March 2022,
following the work of a small group of local
residents who worked with the community to
redesign and reinvigorate the garden. With
the support of local residents who voted for
the project in the People’s Assembly, the
previous year (21-22) was extremely busy:
the garden was planned, designed and laid
out; new plants were planted and grew.
Following this year of intense activity, the
year 22-23 was a year of maintenance,
taking stock, and trialling ways that the
garden can be used for the benefit of local
residents.
During the year we ran or hosted informal
workshops and activities for children (part-
funded by The Lyle’s Fund), open gardening
sessions, workshops on sustainable energy.
Local residents offered yoga taster sessions
and used the space for community meetings.
We’ve been featured in two articles in
Newham Voices and the Guardian in
November 2022.
We were consulted by LB Newham on the
redesign of the space around Manor Park
Station and provided advice and feedback
on flowerbeds and use of space.
The year was a very positive one, full of
learning and most importantly, enthusiastic
use of the space by residents.|
