TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2024 The Trustees present thelr annual report together with the flnancial statements of the charity for the vear ended 31 March 2024. The Pinancial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies and comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Companies Act 2006, the Memorandum and Articles of Association and Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland effective l January 2019. The reference and administrative information on page 2 forms part of this report. Structure, Governance and Managemem Friends of Newark Castle and Victorian Gardens is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with a Foundation model constitution. It was registered as a Charity on 25 March 2022. The charity was established under a constitution that established the objects and powers of the membership organisation. Recrultment and Appolntment of the Board of Trustees The charity's constitution states that there must be a minimum of three Trustees. Every Trustee must be appointed by a resolution at a properly convened meeting. The charity strives to ensure that Trustees have the relevant skills, knowledge and experience required for the effective administration of the charity. New trustees are usually identified from amongst the local community and are asked to declare any conflicts of interest. The induction process for iny newly appointed trustee comprises an initial meeting with the Board of Trustees and receipt of a copy of the constitution, copy of the most recent annual report and accounts, copy minutes of previous Trustees, meetings and a copy of the charity commission guidance 'The E55ential Trustee,. Risk Management The Trustee5 implement a risk management strategy which includes an annual review of the risks that the charity may face and the establishment of systems and procedures to mitigate those risks dentified.

Organisational Strurture The charity does not employ any staff. All mernbers are volunteers and the volunteers work with Newark and Sherwood District Council. . Objectives and Activities for the Public Benefit The Friends of Newark Castle and Victorian Gardens is a registered charity with the objectives of: PromotinE the conservation and preservation of Newark Castle and Gardens for the public benefit, in particular, but not exclusively by the provision of information, advice. assistance and services and facilities for visitors and members of the public; Advancing the education of the public by promoting public appreciation of the history of Newark Castle and Gardens and encouraglng further study or enquiry into its buildings. residents or events. The Trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charitvs aims and objectlves and have complied with their duties under the Charities Act 2011. Achievements and Performance 2023124 has seen the£harity continue to establish itself and its relationship with Newark and Sherwood District Councll. In May 2023, Newark and Sherwood District Council secured a National Heritage Lottery Fund grant to scope a Castle Gatehouse development. The Friends were asked to support this through the provision of volunteer time to help with research. In December 2023, the Charity ensured the castle and gardens were promoted at Newark's Christmas Tree Festival held at st Mary Magdalene Church. Trustee< Responsibilities in Relation to the Financial Statements The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Report and the flnancial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Stsndards Iunited Kingdom Generally Accepted Accountlng Practlcel. Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year, which give a true and falr view of the State of affalrs of the charitable company and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charitable company for the year.
