Trustees Annual Report & Statement of Financial Activity for the period 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024
1. Introduction
1.1 Charitable Objectives
To provide support to those in our community during their time of need. The group
will be run as a not for profit organization and will help others without judgement.
1.2 Overview (Executive Summary)
We are a community charity who provide support across South Essex. We are a non-judgemental, non-discriminatory group who rely solely on donations, with support primarily in the form of food parcels. The group has a varied network of supporters, ranging in nature from private to corporate. A network of General Practitioners and Social workers also interact with the group, helping us to identify and become alerted to those in need of our help on a regular basis.
Our future plans are to expand our existing operations, aiming to support as many families as possible who would otherwise not have the means to access the goods that we provide: namely food, drink and household items. We have seen so many positive outcomes and changes to lives of the individuals and families that we have/ continue to support, and however small, every donation makes a difference.
2. Activities & Achievements
2.1 Outputs & Outcomes
A little bit about our charity: what it is that we do, how we started and our journey, but before that I would just like to thank each and everyone that supports us; as we say all the time at Bobby’s big heart, if we all do a little, together we have a lot.
BBH started five years ago Christmas 2017. The idea was born from Yolanda’s son, Bobby’s desire to share his toys with poor children at Christmas. Bobby couldn’t understand why Santa didn’t bring presents to children who were poor, and asked me if he could give some of his toys to those children who would wake up to nothing on Christmas morning.
It had always been Yolanda’s dream to start a charity, so she set up BBH to help struggling families at Christmas time. It took the best part of 18 months to build peoples trust, and we started to diversify into food parcels so that we could provide support all year round. Alongside the admin team, we work to support families not only with food parcels or seasonal gifts, but also through provision of mental health and domestic violence related support, as well as being in contact with social workers and other practitioners in the mental health and well-being field whom we draw upon as needed. We have provided over 7500 food parcels in the last 5 years alone, and it hasn’t always been easy! From heartbreaking stories to non stop deliveries, the entire admin team wouldn’t change a second of it, running this charity and seeing it grow the way it has, is a dream come true.
We help, on average, 85 families per week, and rely on donations from local businesses, schools and residents to keep our food bank functional. We couldn’t do it without the generosity of so many of our supporters, namely:
-
Canvey Morrisons
-
KKB Group, The Mayor of Canvey, Cllr Lynsey McCarthy-Calvert, Shanta Foundation

-
Greenenergy - The Westcliff Freemasons
-
Neil Taylor at Hammers work and support
-
Canvey Rotary Club
And that is just to name a few! The support we have receive all year round is truly astonishing, and is a credit to the ability of humankind to unite in times of need. Last year we helped 521 families by providing Christmas presents, and are on target to help even more this year.
The money raised through donations, grants and fundraising will go towards furthering the objectives of the group, enabling us to continue to provide food parcels in the year ahead to those in need of a helping hand to get back on their feet.
April 2022 saw us achieve Charity status as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) opening further opportunities for support from the commercial sector. 2023 saw the group purchase a van to assist in the collecting and delivery of donations following a grant from Essex CC and support from KKB Group. KKB continue to support us through Christmas donations.
2.2 The Roles & Contributions of Volunteers
The group have a core Admin team comprising the below but also a facebook group membership
of 4700 members allowing adequate support when needed.
Yolanda Crabb – Chairwoman
Steven Wallis – Treasurer
Kevin Crabb – Committee member & Safeguarding officer
Holly Brickwood – Committee member
Jodie Cole – Secretary & Events organiser
2.3 How the Public Have Benefitted
We have provided over 7500 food parcels in the last 5 years alone benefitting an average of 85 families every week.
2.4 Looking Ahead
A further community food drive is being planned for July 2025 supported by Morrisons Canvey to generate both awareness and donation opportunities. This event was very well received in 2023, 2024 and the 2025 event is hoped to be bigger and better.
Access to sustainable commercial sector support and regular donations is key to supporting the groups long term vision with talks of recession and the cost of living crisis impacting more families.
A grant from the National lottery was also secured in 2023 leaving the group better placed financially for the years ahead. This allowed us to drive our vision of increased awareness by supporting School fetes, Open days etc.
Increasing awareness across the commercial sector is key to our growth. Access to corporate donations will be a focus area for the group in 2025
