Report of the Trustees

For the year ended 31st March 2025

The Trustees present their annual report together with the Financial Statements of the charity for the year ended 31st March 2025.

The Reference and Administrative Details above form part of this report. The Financial Statements comply with current statutory requirements, the Constitution and the Statement of Recommended Practice – Accounting and Report by Charities (effective from January 2019).

Overview of Charity

Penderyn Community Centre objectives are to provide and maintain the Community Centre and green space for the use of the inhabitants of Penderyn and the neighbourhood thereof without distinction of political, religious or other opinions including use for meetings, lectures and classes and for other forms of recreation and leisure-time in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.

We are a CIO established in 2019 following our existence as a purely volunteer led group.

We have had an unusual year in as much as our Centre was closed for 15 months after undergoing a major renovation project which began in May 2024. We reopened in July 2025 to welcome back our previous user groups and to offer a ‘pop up’ café for our community and visitors coming to our beautiful waterfall county.

We are very excited to restart our activities and to open the new “Caffi’r Glo” which is serving reasonably priced, affordable, good quality food to our community whilst making us a sustainable concern. We have employed a full time Centre manager, Mr Owain White, who has thoroughly impressed the

trustees with his enthusiasm, commitment and dedication to making the newly reopened community centre and café a success.

Penderyn Community Centre also has a volunteer led food bank where we collect donations from all the local supermarkets and then offer the food to our community for free.

Over the time we have been running, we have collected 1,345 donations, which made up 110,421 possible meals, collected a total weight of 45,978 kg in food and saved 117,715kg of CO2.

Open to all residents, regardless of location and financial status, the Pantry operates on a simple principle of ‘take what you need, leave what you can’.

This fosters a spirit of inclusivity and mutual support within the community. We also provide food parcels to the most vulnerable which are delivered free of charge or collected. Whilst this brings in no income, it is a project that we are extremely proud of, unfortunately the need for these services is growing year on year, and we hope to achieve further funding to employ a Pantry Coordinator to help us expand.

Due to the lengthy closure of the centre, we are in a startup position applying a conservative budgeted cost base, monitoring closely the expansion to plan.

Based on the business plan through to June 2026, the trustees are confident that there are sufficient funds available to trade through to June 2026.

In addition, and not in our projections, on 16[th] of June 25, we received a grant of £10k from Rhondda Cynon Taff and currently have an outstanding grant application in the sum of £26k with a local provider of grant funding.

Internal accounting corrective actions were taken following the 2024 accounts by John Saunders in conjunction with our independent assessor, Davina Hutchinson and regular monthly income and expenditure reports are now provided to the trustees in a timely manner.
