We<br>therefore have the independence and<br>flexibility to tailor innovative therapeutic<br>services to meet the needs of our families,<br>whilst maintaining our strong commitment<br>to tackling issues that families in the child<br>protection system face.<br>By working closely with social care<br>professionals, we aim to improve working<br>relationships between parents and their<br>social worker which we recognise can often<br>become polarised due to context of the<br>child protection system.|

|Summary of the main<br>achievements of the charity,<br>identifying the difference the<br>charity’s work has made to<br>the circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any wider<br>benefits to society as a<br>whole.|Para 1.20|The main activity we delivered this year<br>was a trauma informed programme to<br>adults whose children are in the child<br>protection process. The programme lasts<br>for 24 weeks. Each week parents attend a<br>group session which has been designed to<br>help them recognise who they are,<br>understand why they parent in the way that<br>they do and develop new skills which can<br>help them progress and move forwards.<br>The programme is accompanied by a<br>workbook which has been designed to<br>mirror the content of the group work<br>sessions as well as help parents reflect on<br>their own situations. We have worked with<br>2 cohorts of 20 parents this year. We have<br>therefore supported 40 parents over the<br>course of the year.<br>When parents complete the trauma<br>informed programme, they have the<br>opportunity to train to become peer<br>mentors and facilitate group work sessions<br>with new parents. This year we have run<br>one peer mentoring course and trained 5<br>new peer mentors.|

This year we have<br>received 100 referrals and we accepted 80<br>families onto the programme as we knew<br>that with our retention rate being 76% we<br>would lose some families at the start of the<br>course. This approach has led to us<br>working with 40 families over the course of<br>the year.|

|Performance of fundraising<br>activities against objectives<br>set|Para 1.41|In February 2021, we were awarded £260k<br>of Reaching Communities Funding over a<br>period of three years. This was our first<br>large grant and we used it to employ two<br>members of full time staff: an Operation<br>Lead and Post Programme Support Worker<br>as well as funding our volunteers, sessional<br>staff and rent for the drop in centre.<br>In addition to the Reaching Communities<br>Fund, we have applied for and been<br>awarded two further funds to run<br>therapeutic workshops and develop our<br>paper workbook into a digital resource. The<br>first grant was £10k from the National<br>Lottery Community Fund and the second<br>was £30k from Winston Churchill Activate<br>Funding.|

We have also carried out a sponsored walk and we raised £2214. We have met our fundraising objectives for this year. Investment performance against objectives Para 1.41

## **TO THE TRUSTEES OF NEW BEGINNINGS FOUNDATION CIO** 

I report on the accounts for the charity for the year ended 31st March 2023 which are set out on pages 11 to 11. 

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner** 

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. 

It is my responsibility to: 

- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act; 

- to follow the procedure laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145 (5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and 

- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. 

## **Basis of independent examiner's report** 

My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission.  An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records.  It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters.  The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. 

## **Independent examiner's statement** 

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention: 

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: 

- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and 

- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act
