Springs of Living Water Christian Centre Trustees’ Annual Report

Aims and Purposes

Springs of Living Water Christian Centre is led by Pastor Carole Haynes. The responsibility of Springs of Living Water Christian Centre is to promote and provide the Christian gospel message to the people of Ripley, Derbyshire, and the surrounding area. This is shared via pastoral, social, evangelical, faith in action, and healing. Sharing the compassion of Jesus Christ with the lost and broken.

We are responsible for the upkeep of the Church building and the attached Church Hall premises, which is used as a pre-school.

Objectives and Activities

Springs of Living Water Christian Centre is committed to offering a welcoming place of worship for the people of Ripley and the surrounding areas. We put faith into action by sharing the gospel message in our services through prayer, scripture, worship, music, water baptism, and Healing.

Activities planned for the year are through seeking the wisdom of Jesus Christ. This guides us to provide services to reach the people of Ripley. We can offer activities such as: -

Worship and prayer evening

Sunday morning service

Food is offered to anyone in need.

Warm Welcome space

Worship and Prayer

Our mid-week prayer evening is open for the people of Ripley to come and pray and worship together. We have a focus on prayer for the local people of Ripley. Leaders of the town and public services, as well as wider in the UK and around the world. This is a time for spiritual growth and uniting in prayer for the town.

We believe the impossible is possible through prayer, and therefore, this is attended by 90% of our congregation.

All are welcome to our services. For people who are not able to join us in person we livestream our Sunday services and share live on Facebook.

pg. 2

Springs of Living Water Christian Centre Trustees’ Annual Report

We have approximately 25 congregation members. As well as our x25 members, we can have up to x100/150 views on our Facebook page weekly. Therefore, reaching a wider population through this medium.

We welcome families to our church and offer a children’s church during our Sunday service. The members of our congregation who are involved in the delivery of our children’s church sessions have been DBS checked. The safety of our adults and children is ensured by each session being led with at least two members of our congregation.

The Church Building

Our lift was installed in February 2023. Through this, our café space upstairs is now accessible to all, and this is now a usable space for our congregation and the wider community of Ripley.

Our café space is used as a Warm Welcome space on a Friday morning during the colder months of October – April/May.

Church Hall

There is an established pre-school operating from our church hall. We hope to link in with this provision more. An example of this is by offering speech and language therapy support for the children who are attending this provision, so far as not been taken up.

Pastoral Care

Warm Welcome Space (Open and running March-June 2023 and October 2023March 2024)

We continue to provide a warm space with free hot drinks and food for approx. 3 hours on a Friday morning. Our space is registered with the Warm Space campaign. Following a visit from the environmental health, we were awarded a hygiene rating of 5. Our space is ‘live’ on the national Warm Welcome space map. People can search for our opening times and location between October 2024 and March/April 2025. We hope to continue supporting the community of Ripley throughout this difficult financial time.

pg. 3

Springs of Living Water Christian Centre Trustees’ Annual Report

We serve hot soup and toasties, homemade cakes, and hot and cold drinks free of charge to anyone from 11 am -1 pm.

We continue to link in with other churches and agencies, within the town, to support our local community the best way we can. We have linked in with other Churches, social care, schools, voluntary sectors within Ripley to share information. We continue to update this group with our services.

Alternative Provision

A member of our congregation who is a qualified teacher has provided alternative education since January 2025. One pupil with Tourette’s, Autism, and ADHD has been supported, who was struggling to thrive in mainstream education after a negative experience. Through creative, hands-on learning in art, pottery, and cooking, they are now settled, motivated, and positively engaged in their education.

Plans and hopes:

Stay and Chat

We hope to open our café area on different days to families and other groups within the community. Offering a safe space for people to come and have a drink and a chat. We hope to provide a place of sanctuary for people who may be lonely/living alone.

Youth Group

We hope to open our church soon as a mid-week safe space for the youth of Ripley to attend. We will offer drinks and snacks as well as games and activities in our café.

Toddler Group

We hope to offer a group for parents to bring their toddlers to enjoy a safe place where they can play and make friends, and parents can chat and meet other parents in Ripley and the surrounding areas. This may be by linking in with the pre-school provision which is already operating out of our Church Hall premises.

Pre-school

We have a pre-school operating from our Church Hall. They have remained with us over the last decade. We have been able to support them through the difficult period of Covid and more recently through the cost-of-living crisis by not increasing the rent or the utility bills. We hope to link in much more over the next year.

Therapy

pg. 4

Springs of Living Water Christian Centre Trustees’ Annual Report

We have approached the manager of the pre-school and offered Speech and Language Therapy support for the children attending with communication difficulties. We hope to develop this further throughout the year with our Speech and Language Therapist who is part of the congregation. This has not yet been taken up by the pre-school.

We would also like to offer counselling and therapy to support the repair of relationships within families in Ripley. This is something we hope to develop further in the next year.

Food Distribution

We continue to work closely with the Salvation Army in Ripley and provide food and toiletries as needed throughout the year to support people in Ripley. There are times when we provide families/people with food as needed on an individual basis. This is when we are approached directly or via other services.

Again, this is something we hope to develop further and continue to link in with others within the town.

Mission and Evangelism

Embedded in everything we do is our passion to share the heart of Jesus Christ with all. This is shared through the activities mentioned above. We aim to demonstrate our faith.

This year, we have particularly focused on healing. Sharing the miraculous manifestation of the promises of God through His signs and wonders. We hope to develop these weekends within the next year. We hope to become a hub within the town, supporting the local services that are struggling to meet the demands currently. Springs of Living Water Christian Centre will become a hub over the next year for the sick to come and be healed, alleviating the demand on public services in the town.

Finances

2023/2024 accounts to March 2024:

Income: £57,331

Expenditure: £50,606

Plans for future finance are to continue to improve the main Church building, Church Hall, Church grounds, and facilities in line with the plans already outlined in this report. We have started fundraising to repair the leaking church roof.

Safeguarding

We are members of thirtyone:eight (formerly The Churches Child Protection Advisory Service) who are our umbrella organization for all areas of Safeguarding. All DBS checks are processed by them.

We continue to incorporate the comprehensive safeguarding policy, approved by thirtyone:eight.

We have a Safeguarding Coordinator as well as a Deputy Safeguarding Coordinator. We realise that the implementation of the Child Protection Policy, with all its paperwork and strict guidelines, will have an impact on every area of church life, and the safety of the children and families who attend is paramount.

Structure, governance, and management

The Pastor is appointed and approved by the Board of Trustees. The Trustees agreed to Pastor Carole Haynes taking over as Pastor in October 2012.

The Board of Trustees meets regularly to make decisions on all matters regarding the Church and Church Hall.
