## **TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL RETURN for the Financial Year ended 31 December 2023**

CHERT Reference: CHERT 83

## **1. Objects and Purpose**

- 1.1. To advance education for the public benefit about the history of the struggle for LGBT+ rights, including but not limited to the origins and history of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality and by contributing to the safe preservation of LGBT+ archives.

- 1.2. To promote equality and diversity by encouraging a deeper understanding of the causes and progress of changes in public acceptance of LGBT+ rights.

## **2. Activities during the year**

- 2.1. The Trustees met on six occasions during the year, with business focussed on completion of the policy portfolio, commissioning work on the second volume of ‘Amiable Warriors’ CHE history, and transfer of assets from the Campaign for Homosexual Equality to the CHE Research Trust, as ratified at the 50[th] Annual conference of CHE on 15/10/22.

- 2.2. The resolution passed at the 50[th ] CHE Conference empowered the Trustees, acting in their capacity as the Executive Committee of CHE, to transfer sufficient money from CHE to CHERT to enable CHERT to fulfil its charitable objects. As of 31[st] December 2023, these assets were in excess of £80,000.

- 2.3. Following the resignation of our Treasurer on 14/04/23, progress on transfer of assets to the Charity stalled, pending assigning new signatories to the CHE accounts to enable their management, to the benefit of CHERT.

- 2.4. Two Trustees agreed to share the role of Treasurer on an interim basis, and they anticipate completing the transfer of assets in the next calendar year.

## **3. Financial position**

- 3.1. Due to the matters stated in 2.3 above, the Charity had no financial assets at the outset, and had no income or expenditure during the year.

Signed for and on behalf of the Board of Trustees of CHERT:

Simon Ives (Chair), 16/10/24
