Registered Charity 1198210

Annual Report of the Trustees for year ended 30[th] June 2025

This is the third report for Knutsford and District Lions Club CIO which was registered on 2[nd] March 2022. In compliance with Lions International principles, all Administration costs (principally Lions national and international dues) are kept separate from charitable funds raised from the general public and are funded by members subscriptions and money raised from Club social events.

The Charity Trustees for the year to 30[th] June 2025 were: Paul Buttrick (Chairman & Club President), Clive Heath (Treasurer), Frances Morton (Secretary), George Williams, Michael Goldman and Peter Willgoose.

Objectives and Activities

Knutsford and District Lions Club CIO operates under the jurisdiction of Lions Clubs International and follows the charitable guidelines set by Multiple District 105 which covers England, Scotland and Wales.

Knutsford and District Lions Club CIO serves the local community by fundraising via donations or charitable events and using these funds in particular to provide grant support, directly or indirectly, for local people in hardship or with disabilities. The Club also encourages local youth in their community activities, supports local community projects and organisations and provides grants nationally and internationally to support Lions International projects or disaster appeals.

Achievements and Performance

Since 2015 the Club has operated a “Project Wenceslas” scheme where we encourage local people in receipt of Winter Fuel Allowance to consider donating part of their allowance to a ring-fenced (Restricted) fund that we hold for use to help local people in fuel poverty or other financial hardship. Monies are distributed in most cases via The Welcome Centre or Citizens Advice Cheshire North (CACN) - we have six monthly review meetings about the finances, but all payments made by them are anonymous to us. We also periodically support the local Hope Central food bank.

For many years the Club has organised a Community Fair on the late May Bank Holiday Monday – another popular Fair was held on Bank Holiday Monday 26[th] May. Many local organisations and charities brought stalls at no charge to raise funds or awareness for their own causes and we provided entertainment and arranged for various refreshment stalls. As usual our main fundraising from the Fair was from sale of programmes, with valuable assistance from local Guides and Brownies and Knutsford Hosts.

Other major fundraising activities included our annual December House to House and street collections which receive very generous donations from the local public, a Charity Concert in November which raised funds for ‘East Cheshire Hospice @home’.

The Club organised another free Senior Citizens Variety Show on 8[th] February, when entertainment was provided for about 200 local elderly including some from local Care Homes or sheltered housing.

Once again we provided lunch and entertainment on Christmas Day for about 40 local people who would otherwise have been on their own. In 2024 it was held at the Knutsford Sports Club in Mereheath Lane and we are most grateful to them for their support after the Council closed the Knutsford Stanley Centre.

The Club made grants from our unrestricted charitable funds to about 40 separate causes, which included regular annual grants, disaster appeals, youth awards and some local voluntary groups or community support projects.

We also continued to support spectacle recycling for use in third world countries and Message in a Bottle to assist the emergency services.

Clive Heath - Treasurer, Knutsford & District Lions Club CIO August 2025
