KNUTSFORD AND DISTRICT LIONS CLUB CIO

Registered Charity 1198210

Annual Report of the Trustees for year ended 30[th] June 2023

This is the first report for Knutsford and District Lions Club CIO which was registered on 2[nd] March 2022 and was used for all financial transactions after the new Bank accounts were set up on 17[th] May 2022. These accounts therefore cover the period 17[th] May 2022 to 30[th] June 2023. Formerly the Knutsford and District Lions Club was operating as registered charity No. 508499 which had been set up by Declaration of Trust on 30[th] January 1979. All the remaining funds in this previous charity have been transferred to these CIO accounts, and Charity 508499 has been closed down.

In compliance with Lions International principles all Administration costs (principally Lions national and international dues) are kept separate from charitable funds raised from the general public and are funded by members subscriptions and money raised from Club social events.

The Charity Trustees for the year to 30[th] June 2023 were: Paul Buttrick (Chairman & Club President), Clive Heath (Treasurer), Frances Morton (Secretary), Michael Goldman and Peter Willgoose.

Objectives and Activities

Knutsford and District Lions Club CIO operates under the jurisdiction of Lions Clubs International and follows the charitable guidelines set by Multiple District 105 which covers England, Scotland and Wales.

Knutsford and District Lions Club CIO serves the local community by fundraising via donations or charitable events and using these funds to provide support, directly or indirectly, for local people in hardship or with disabilities. The Club also encourages local youth in their community activities, supports local community projects and organisations and provides funds nationally and internationally to support Lions International projects or disaster appeals.

Achievements and Performance

Since 2015 the Club has operated a “Project Wenceslas” scheme where we encourage local people in receipt of Winter Fuel Allowance to consider donating part of their allowance to a ring-fenced (restricted) fund that we hold for use to help local people in fuel poverty or other financial hardship. Monies were distributed in most cases via the Welcome Centre or Citizens Advice Cheshire North (CACN).

For many years the Club has organised a Community Fair on the late May Bank Holiday Monday – On 3[rd] June 2022 the Club organised a Jubilee Fair on Knutsford Heath, where local organisations and charities brought stalls at no charge to raise funds or awareness for their own causes. The Club provided entertainment and the event formed the main part of Knutsford’s Jubilee celebrations. A similar successful Community Fair was held on 29[th] May 2023. Our main fundraising from these Fairs was from the sale of programmes.

Other major fundraising activities included our annual December House to House and street collections and a Charity Concert in November.

The Club normally organises a free Senior Citizens Variety Show in early February, but in 2022 this was rearranged to 28[th] May due to Covid. In 2023 we returned to the usual timing of Saturday 4[th] February. Entertainment was provided for about 150/200 local elderly including some from local Care Homes or sheltered housing.

For many years the Club has provided lunch and entertainment on Christmas Day for about 40 people and in 2022 (post Covid!) we were able to return to the Stanley Centre in Knutsford.

The Club made donations from our unrestricted charitable funds to about 40 separate causes, which included regular annual donations, disaster appeals, youth awards and some local voluntary groups or community support projects.

We also continued to support spectacle recycling for use in third world countries and Message in a Bottle to assist the emergency services.

Clive Heath - Treasurer, Knutsford & District Lions Club CIO March 2024
