## **Trustees Report For the year-end 31 December 2024**

## **Objectives and Activities:**

## **A. Policies and objectives**

As stated in our governing document, our objective is: ‘the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation within Pontefract and the surrounding areas, but the provision of facilities and coaching for the playing of table tennis.’

The values we try to instil in players include Aspiring, commitment, kindness, working hard, being organised, respect, team spirit and being helpful.

## **B. Activities for achieving objectives**

Through the playing of table tennis, Ackworth Table Tennis Club offers coaching to people from all backgrounds, ages and abilities, allowing people to play together. The club provides facilities, coaches and a warm, welcoming environment where people can enjoy the sport of table tennis within a safe, community-friendly club.

## **How our Activities Deliver Public Benefit:**

We offer table tennis coaching to anyone, regardless of age or ability. Our activities aim to improve table tennis skills, generic fitness, mental health and social inclusion. This is shown in the increasing membership over the past years.

The trustees confirm that the club has delivered activities and projects within the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.

## **Achievements and Performance:**

## **A. Review of Activities**

The club had a positive year in 2024. We have always put the players at the heart of the programme to try to do what is best for them and how we can support each individual in the ways they need, depending on their aims. The club increased sessions to three nights per week and during the holiday. We have started to use a new venue which is extremely supportive, and we are looking at ways to expand our sessions there. The below is a summary of our sessions and the successes that our attendees have had throughout the year.

Number of unique attendees at sessions this year – 150 Number of unique volunteers at sessions this year – 15

Average numbers at sessions: Monday - 10 Tuesday Session 1 – 5 Tuesday Session 2 – 11 Friday – 15

Holiday Sessions – 15

## **Financial Review:**

## **A. Financial Review**

The charity ended the financial year with a closing balance of £19,549.63, making a loss of £9,323.50 this year. The table tennis calendar runs from September to August, despite our accounts running from January to December. This means that some funds will be spent in the following financial report for this season; likewise, we have ongoing income and expenditure from the previous season. The loss included using grant money to increase the number of sessions which we ran.

## Grants

The club has been successful with grants this year, raising £600.

The grants we received are: Wakefield Council £500 Yorkshire Table Tennis £100

## **B. Going concerns**

The trustees of the charity believe that there are sufficient funds within the club to allow the club to continue being successful at its current capacity while looking at ways in which the club can develop and be successful with its primary aim of having a full-time centre. The club is looking at ways to recruit and expand its current offer, so the transition to a full-time centre will be more seamless.

## **Structure, Governance and Management:**

## **A. Constitution**

The charity was incorporated on 4 March 2022 as a Charitable Incorporated organisation. It is governed by its constitution dated 20 January 2022.

## **B. Method of appointment or election of Trustees**

The management of the charity is the responsibility of the Trustees who are elected under the terms of the of the CIO Association.

The minimum number of trustees is 3 and the maximum is 10.

Apart from the first charity trustees, every appointed trustee must be appointed for a term of three years. They may seek re-election if they wish at the discretion of the other trustees. Any vacancies are filled or new appointments made but the charity trustees.

## **Plans for future periods:**

## Full time Centre

The club and trustees are working hard with the local council to open a full-time table tennis centre.

## Expanding sessions

The club is looking at increasing participation, including marketing and additional sessions. We will look at additional venues in the growth period to help us grow, but before we take on a permanent facility. We have recently started delivering sessions at a new venue (a school) which are keen to allow us to deliver more. We are using the Sport England grant to help us do this.

## Workforce

The club will continue to support its club members to become coaches. We will involve parents to support us with sessions and help out in the club where they have expertise.

## Focusing on what we do best

We will continue delivering our sessions, working with the local community, attracting new people, and retaining others. We have a very multicultural club which we will continue to grow. We will look to expand to recent sessions, keeping the safe and welcoming feel of the club. We will continue to support children through their development both in and out of table tennis. The club coaches will advise children on local and national competitions to enter and coaches will attend them to support.
