## **ABOUT GPG  http://penarthgreening.cymru/** 

GPG is in its 13[th] year, with 2022-23 our first full year as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, with the overall aim of protecting the environment for the public benefit in Penarth and environs, by promoting the sharing, repairing and re-using of products; raising awareness on environmental issues; and promoting biodiversity. 

## **CURRENT PROJECTS AND PARTNERS** 

## **Benthyg Penarth https://penarth.benthyg.cymru/** 

- Penarth’s library of things, currently based in the Kymin, launched March 2021 by GPG in collaboration with Benthyg Cymru, with original funding from Natural Resources Wales and the WCVA 

- Donations grew early, and borrowing rates have been steadily increasing 

- Now partners in a National Lottery-funded network supporting LoTs across Cardiff and the Vale, making items across these areas more accessible to those affected by the cost-of-living crisis 

## **Penarth Growing Community http://penarthgrowingcommunity.co.uk/** 

- Like Benthyg, a project which grew from GPG’s 2020 community meeting on what we can do locally to tackle the climate and nature crisis 

- Tending the orchard and raised beds at the Kymin (funded through Keep Wales Tidy) with fortnightly community sessions, in partnership with Friends of the Kymin 

- Continuing to maintain West House Community Garden and a town-wide seed and plant exchange 

- Successful Grow Along programme (2022/23) national Lottery-funded workshops and events 

## **Plastic Free Penarth https://penarthgpg.org/plastic-free-penarth/** 

- Group set up to secure Plastic Free Community status for Penarth (achieved 2019) 

- Currently working to expand number of local businesses and schools with Plastic Free status 

- Has worked regularly with local partners and Keep Wales Tidy’s Eco schools programme, including arranging a school’s event at the Pier in 2022 

## **Cosmeston Orchard** 

- Established 2010, maintained by members of Penarth Tree Forum; activities include fruit tree pruning and hedge laying courses supported by the Vale Local Nature Partnership 

## **Wales Climate Week 2023  https://www.climateweek.gov.wales/** 

- We are currently planning an event for January 2024 as part of the Welsh Government’s Climate Conversation scheme 

## **Priorities for 2023-24** 

- Growing our projects and volunteers 

- Continuing regular articles in Penarth Times on environmental issues 

- Changing regular format of committee meetings to alternate between business meetings and public events
