The Trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 31 August 2025.
Structure, Governance and Management
Christian Links in Keighley Schools (CLiKS) was formed as part of Central Keighley Churches Together in July 2003 in order to coordinate Church work in the local schools. It became an independent Management Committee on December 15 2005, and took responsibility for funds already received for this purpose. It was declared a Trust on 10 January 2006, registered as a Charity on 18 May 2006, and as a Company Limited by Guarantee on 19 October 2010. A CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) and a new charity (charity number 1198107) were set up in March 2022 in the name of CLIKS (Christian Links in Keighley Schools), although the CIO did not start operating until May 2024. The original company continued to operate during the year to 31 August 2024 as the bank accounts had not been transferred in full to the CIO. The final small balance on the account was transferred in January 2025, the bank account was closed and a First Gazette Notice to strike off the company was raised. As a result, the year ended 31 August 2025 was the CIO’s first full year of operation. The charity is affiliated to Scripture Union.
Our Objects as defined in our Trust Deed:
To advance the Christian religion for the benefit of the public in Keighley and district in the County of West Yorkshire, in partnership with local Churches and others, amongst children, young people and families.
Activities specified in our Charity Commission application:

To assist schools with Christian input to collective worship, religious education and other relevant subjects

To support Christian teachers, other school staff, governors and volunteer helpers

To develop ways of celebrating Christian festivals in ways relevant to children and young people

To encourage and facilitate visits to churches by children and young people

To encourage Christians to pray for schools

To encourage Christians to get more involved with schools as governors, volunteers etc.

To enable Christians to develop their skills in working with children and young people

To arrange after-school clubs for Christian fellowship, teaching and associated social activities e.g. sport, music, art

Public Benefit
The Trustees believe that they have complied with the duty in section 4 of the 2006 Act to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in setting the charity’s objectives and planning its activities.
The activities of CLiKS benefit the public by providing:

support for local schools in the delivery of their statutory requirement to provide acts of Christian worship and religious education

opportunities for children and young people (of all faiths and none) to gain an understanding of Christian tradition
-
opportunities for children and young people to engage with relevant forms of Christian spirituality
-
support for the local Churches in their ministry to children and young people.
Trustees
The Trustees during the year were:
Rev David Cooke, Clare Dewhirst, Janette Jones, Rev Dale Barton, Adam Robinson, Jan Hesselwood, Rev Alastair Kirk, Rev Tracy Birks and Rev Amy Berry. Jan Hesselwood resigned on 14 January 2025 and Rev Tracy Birks resigned on 25 March 2025. Adam Robinson resigned on 14 January 2026 and Rev Amy Berry and Rev Alastair Kirk resigned on 24 February 2026.
All the Trustees have received a CRB/DBS check. Our DBS records are maintained by Mrs Hazel Mosby who is our named Safeguarding Reference. As a Local Mission Partnership our Safeguarding Policy is that of Scripture Union.
Authorised signatories for the charity’s bank accounts are Rev Dale Barton, Clare Dewhirst and Janette Jones.
The Trustees held 5 ordinary meetings during the year, plus an Annual General Meeting to approve the previous Annual Report and Accounts at which Rev David Cooke was appointed as Chair, Rev Dale Barton as Vice-chair, Janette Jones as Secretary and Clare Dewhirst as Treasurer.
The Trustees are elected to serve for a period of three years after which they must be reelected at the next Annual General meeting.

Achievements and Performance
The charity’s two part time workers began work on 1 September 2024. During the reporting period the workers, supported by the trustees, and a total of 25 volunteers from Keighley churches, ran three events, Rewind to Christmas, Rewind to Easter and Fast Forward. These were either run in individual schools or in local churches and were attended by a total of 1,606 children, accompanied by their teachers, representing on average 13 Keighley Primary schools.
Rewind to Christmas tells the Christmas story and Rewind to Easter the story of Good Friday and Easter Day. They are fast-paced ninety-minute, multimedia programmes developed by Scripture Union agreed with schools and include prayer and reflection. They require a large amount of preparation and have significant costs, but could not be run without the commitment of our volunteers and the hospitality of the churches. Invariably the feedback from school staff is extremely positive. Our aim is that all primary school children in Keighley will hear a Christian account of the two major Christian festivals Christmas and Easter.
Fast Forward is intended to help children with the challenging transition from Year 6 Primary School to High School and again was well attended by 456 children from 11 schools.
The workers have also conducted acts of collective worship, assisted in a special RE project, assisted with RE lessons and run lunchtime clubs for primary school children. A project, called ‘Hot Spot’, to offer hot chocolate to pupils and families returning home from school has been started, offering chances for conversation and signposting to other events. One of the workers has become a governor of a local primary school. One of the workers has established a link with Keighley College to conduct question and answer sessions, and to represent the Christian viewpoint in inter-faith discussions.
Vision for the Future
Our workers will continue to develop new ways of linking with Keighley Schools. Ben Gillatt will focus on seeking to develop new links with secondary schools. His intention is to offer a chaplaincy service to local secondary schools, as well as offering support for RE lessons and acts of collective worship. He will also seek to develop Hot Spot into a drop-in session for secondary school pupils, creating a safe space to relax, but also to explore issues of faith through conversation with volunteers.
Tolu Samuel will focus on primary schools, and seek to develop extra-curricular activities with willing schools, as well as seeking further opportunities to support RE teaching and acts of collective worship Both will engage with the Keighley programme for children - X:site. This offers out of school events with Christian content through after school meetings, holiday clubs and holidays.
We will continue to run the three programmes Rewind to Christmas, Rewind to Easter and Fast Forward.

Vision for the Future (continued)
We are open to offering a Christian input to RE lessons which have Christian content as part of the RE syllabus.
We will be open to supporting the use of Open the Book in schools in Keighley. This is a Bible Society programme which tells a Bible story during a 15-minute Primary School Act of Collective Worship. It uses drama, costume and children’s participation with a story teller and actors.
We very much value our donors, supporting churches and loyal volunteers who all maintain the work of CLiKS.
Financial Review
As mentioned above, the CIO did not commence operating until shortly before the year end and this is reflected in the small amounts of income and expenditure for the year. Income for 2025 was £7,229 (2024: £67,071). The income was much higher in 2024 as it consisted entirely of the bank balances transferred from the CLIKS limited company. Expenditure on charitable activities totalled £28,496 (2024: £1,012) resulting in a net decrease in funds of £21,267 (2024: £66,059 increase).
The Trustees have reviewed the financial situation up to the date of approval of the accounts and are satisfied that the charity continues to be a going concern. Whilst the general reserves have decreased since August 2024, due to the employment of the two schools workers, CLiKS is actively seeking funding and considers that the charity is able to continue to pursue its charitable aims and to offer employment for at least the next 12 months.
The accounts (financial statements) have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on 16 July 2014 and the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011 and UK Generally Accepted Practice as it applies from 1 January 2015.
Reserves Policy
As a general rule, the Trustees consider that the company should aim to hold reserves equivalent to 6 months’ expenditure; as of 31 August 2025 free reserves totalled £44,792, which is in excess of the reserves policy. The Trustees are currently applying for grant funding, but in the absence of any current offers of funding to date, it is considered prudent to retain the reserves to enable the smooth running of the charity and cover the employment and running costs until new funding is obtained.

Notes to the accounts
1. Basis of accounting
These accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant notes to these accounts. The accounts have been prepared in accordance with:

The Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the FRS applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) effective 1 January 2019;

And with the Charities Act 2011.
The charity constitutes a public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102.
2. Accounting policies
INCOME
Recognition of income – This is included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SoFA) when:

The charity becomes entitled to the resources;

It is more certain than not that the trustees will receive the resources; and
-
The monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.
Income with related expenditure – Where income has related expenditure, the income and related expenditure are reported gross in the SoFA.
Grants and donations – These are only included in the SoFA when the general income recognition criteria are met.
Tax reclaims on donations and gifts –Gift Aid receivable is included in income when there is a valid declaration from the donor. Any Gift Aid amount recovered on a donation is considered to be part of that gift and is treated as an addition to the same fund as the initial donation unless the donor or the terms of the appeal have specified otherwise.
Volunteer help – The value of any voluntary help received is not included in the accounts but is described in the trustees’ annual report.
Investment income – This is included in the accounts when receivable.
EXPENDITURE AND LIABILITIES
Liability recognition – Liabilities are recognised where it is more likely than not that there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources and the amount of the obligation can be measured with reasonable certainty.
ASSETS
Tangible fixed assets for use by the charity – These are capitalised if they can be used for more than one year and cost at least £500.
