## **Merthyr Town FC Community Foundation** ## **Main Objectives** The Foundation's objects are to encourage children and adults within Merthyr Tydfil and the surrounding areas to lead an active and healthy lifestyle, without reference to race, sex, creed or social background, through the use of football and other ancillary sporting activities as educational tools, so that local children might grow to maturity as individuals and members of society with their life conditions improved. Merthyr Town FC is one of 72 league clubs in the National League (Step 2), delivering sporting and social opportunities to people within our local community. Our Community Foundation was founded in 2010 under the original guidance of Elliot Evans. We have transformed the growth into the organisation it is today. We deliver sports and social-based programmes within our local community, endeavouring to deliver and increase participation for the current, future and older generations. The work of the Foundation is designed to meet three key themes of: Sports Participation, an Active and Healthy Life Style plus Social Inclusion. For the last seven years the Foundation has been run entirely by volunteers. Following the end of the pandemic in 2022, the main priority has been to employ a Community Development Worker to organise an run the activities of the Foundation. However, after Covid funders priorities have changed and despite submitting a number of grant applications, the criteria and guidance has had an increasing emphasis on sustainability, nature, human rights, refugees, the arts and heritage, all worthy causes but very few that fit our model. In the circumstances, we have been unable to hold any of our planned activities or the last two years. The Foundation's Strategy sets out its vision, mission and core values: ## **Vision** 'To be a community hub at the heart of the Community' helping individuals to achieve their goals by taking part in quality and innovative programmes which focus upon their needs and requirements. ## **Mission** ‘Through the positive promotion of sport and physical activity, we are committed to providing opportunities for participation in physical development & educational opportunities.' ## **Core Values** 1. Social Inclusion – Everyone has a sense of belonging. 2. Progress Through Stability. 3. Teamwork – Together we can achieve anything. 4. Providing opportunities for everyone to achieve their goals. 5. To make a difference – an active and healthy lifestyle. The Foundation works closely with a number of key partners, including the FAW, the Local Authority, Merthyr College, USW, local primary schools and the Probation Services.
