Through these workshops we<br>have opened up awkward conversations<br>such as sexual assault, sexting etc. We<br>have had approx. 50 students stay behind<br>to speak 1 to 1 with one of the retired<br>officers to ask for advice and guidance as<br>they themselves have been victims of<br>crime of a “friend” has.<br>We had one boy who was upset after a<br>session and when asked why, he said “I<br>didn’t realise that my actions have been<br>scaring girls”.<br>I myself heard a boy ask his girlfriend after<br>a session on harassment if “the amount of<br>times I text you a day is ok with her”.<br>Our mentoring programme has increased<br>ten fold due to grant money and I am<br>hoping this avenue of work will increase<br>over time as many of our young people<br>sadly don’t have an adult to look up too.<br>We have acted as appropriate adults in the<br>police station this year when some of our<br>younger people have got into trouble. We<br>see this as an honour as the bond of trust<br>is clearly there for them to ask us this.|
