The charity is based in England and works with communities in the United Kingdom,
Eastem Europe, and Sub-saharan Africa. The registered and the principal address of
the Charity is 85 Great Portland Street First Floor, London W1W 7LT. The Charity
achieved full registration on the 151h of February 2022 and its Registered Charity
Number is 1197932.
Organisational Structure
The charity Board of Trustees meet six times a year. Our Board of Trustees are
responsible for making decisions on all matters that generally COn￿rnS the overall
strategic direction and policy of the Charity. The day-to-day responsibility for the
provision of service and activities of the Charity are delegated to the CEO and the
Operations Team who are renumerated on project delivery and report back to the
Board of Trustees.
Rlsk Management Pollcy
The Trustees are responsible for recognising and assessing any risks the Charity may
face, ensuring that effective controls are in place to provide reasonable protection
against liabilities, fraud. or anything that could disrupt the Charity's operations.
Various control measures are maintained to minimise risks across banking, donations,
Income and expenditure, and the approval of expenses.
All staff members working with vulnerable individuals or young people undergo DBS
checks, which are documenled and updated regularly in accordance with the Charity's
policies. Staff and volunteers also re￿1ve consistent training in safeguarding, equality
and diversity, and GDPR, ensuring they remain current with the latest legislation.
At each Board Meeting, Trustees examine and review the major risks confronting the
Charity. The risk management policy itself is reviewed annually by the Board of
Trustees. Systems are in pla￿ to monitor, manage, and mitigate these risks, helping
to redu￿ any potential impact on the Charity's work in the future.
Objectives and Activities
Service 1.
Vortexsports
Vortexsports came out of a suc￿Ssful Lunar and Encore Active projects. Feedback
from parents, children, and young people highlighted the need for ongoing provision
that encouraged regular participation in sport and physical activity. Drawing on this
feedback, and building on the U13 and U15 basketball clubs established through
earlier projects, the new funding all0v￿d us to expand grassroots football and

basketball to other age groups and introduce a girls, netball club. Because these
activities had been chosen by participants. Vortexsports really helped reduce inactivity
and address inequalities in sport and physical activity. Sutveys and small group
discussions also showed strong interest among children and young people in taking
part.
Vortexsports used a range of physical activities and sports initiatives to promote
active lifestyles and support the five steps to mental wellbeing for children and
young people from minoritised backgrounds. These included:
l. Connecting with others by creating opportunities for children and young people
to build a sense of belonging, self-worth, and shared positive experiences.
Girls-only netball and basketball sessions helped participants work together
towards a common goal.
2. Being physically active by setting achievable goals. such as completing weekly
fitness circuits and taking part in kickboxing. Reaching these goals helped
increase self-esteem and gave participants positive ways to relax and manage
anxiety.
3. Learning new skills through girls, basketball, girls, netball, boys, basketball, and
mixed football sessions.
4. Giving to others by encouraging children and young people to support one
another. New participants were paired with a buddy who helped them settle in,
showed them around, explained the club's values, and encouraged positive
sharing.
5. Paying attention to the present moment by helping participants recognise thelr
thoughts, feelings, bodies, and surroundings. Mindfulness was included in
warm-ups and wind-down aclivities through breathing techniques such as
pursed-lip, diaphragmatic, and alternate nostril breathing.
The programme gave participants opportunities to develop prosoaal identities, build a
stronger sense of community, fom lasting positive relationships, and redu￿ isolation.
Vortexsports prornoted prosocial identities through positive role m(MJelling by coaches,
volunteers, stsff, and trustees. It also involved families and the wider community
through interactive competitions and training sessions that welcomed spectators. The
funding helped remove barriers that limited participation for refugees, children from
low-income households, and vulnerable children, including transport difficulties and
limited aC￿sS to suitable, high-quality facilities. Overall, the project aimed to improve
equality in sport for children and young people across our communities.

Lightzone Holiday Activitles and Food {HAF)- Funded by Derby City
Council and administered through Community Action Derby.

Fusion Scape supported children, young people, and families in deprived communities
across the United Kingdom through advice, guidance. and practical support in
education, povety alleviation, community participation. and social equity. The HAF
provision is one of the ways the charity engages families, creating welcoming spa￿S
where children and young people learned new skills, built confiden￿, joined positive
activities, and felt more connected to their communities.
Although access to enrichment opportunities remained challenging for some children
and young people, Fusion Scape responded by working with local community leaders
and partners to deliver activities that supported their development, aspirations. and
wellbeing.
Participants have taken part in a varied programme that included music workshops,
nature walks, gardening, STEM activities, sports, creative projects, and social
activities. These experiences encourage curiosity, teamwork, problem-solving, and
friendship, while giving children and young people the chance to try something new in
safe and supportive setting.
Physical activity are central to the programme. During the school holidays, participants
joined daily activities that supported their 60-minute exercise goal. Football,
basketball, dance, gymnastics. and fitness circuits helped build fitness, Confidence.
perseverance, and social skills, with the Arboretum HAF sessions placing particular
focus on basketball and fitness.
We provided ArtTeach sessions structured, hands-on c￿aliVe learning. Through
making and decorating simple objects. participants explored their artistic interests
while developing creatimty. patience. and pri(5e in their work.
Healthy eating was another key element. Children and young people helped plan
menus and prepare simple foods. including fruit and vegetables. Staff encouraged
conversations about balanced diets, drinking water instead of fizzy drinks, and
choosing healthier snacks. Most meals are prepared on site, and older participants
also explored budgeting and meal planning, helping them develop practical life skills
alongside healthier habits.
Lightzone HAF was delivered during the Christmas. Easter. and Summer school
holidays throughout the academic year.

Music Education for Children Aged 5-13 at Becket Family Hub
Derby
Introduction
The Department for Education recognised the Importan￿ of every child hamng access
to high-quality music education. The Becket Family Hub Derby, programme supported
this. aim by making music leaming available within the local community, with a
particular focus on vulnerable children and families experiencing severe finanaal
hardship.
Through instrument tuition and group music-making, children gained valuable creative
experiences as part of a broad education. Music helped enrich their leaming while
supporting cognitive development, language and motor skills, emotional awareness,
confidence, and collaboration.
Aims and Objectives
The music education programme was designed to give children aged 5 to 13 a positive
and accessible training in music. The curriculum covered basic music theory, practical
instrument tuition, rhythm exercises, listening activities, and group perfOrman￿S. This
approach helped children understand musical patterns, develop confidence, and enjoy
learning in a supportive environment.
Sessions also encouraged teamwork, patien￿, concentration, and self*xpression.
Children were given opportunities to practise individually and as part of a group,
allowing them to build technical skills while learning to listen to others. The programme
supported vulnerable children and families experiencing finanual hardship by reducing
barriers to creative learning and making music education available within a trusted
community setting.
The instruments taught included drums, guitar, and piano. These instruments we
chosen because they introduced children to rhythm, melody, coordination, and
creativity in different ways. Drumming helped participants develop timing and focus,
guitar supported hand coordination and musical expression, and piano helped children
understand notes, scales, and simple melodies.
The sessions were delivered on Saturdays at Becket Family Hub Derby during tenn
time, making them easier for families to attend outside school hours. Overall, the
programme helped children explore their interests, gain new skills, and experience the
joy and fun of making music with others.

Community Outreach for Children and Young People

Arts and Culture Sessions
Programme Overview
The Community Outreach programme at Normanton Hub Derby delivered arts,
heritage, and culture sessions for Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Gypsy, Roma, and
Traveller children and young people aged 8 to 17. Through informal leaming and
inclusive leisure activities, the sessions created a welcoming environment where
participants explored creativity, shared eXperien￿S, and celebrated their cultural
identities.
Creatlve Actlvltles
Participants took part in a varied programme of music, dance, drama, storytelling, and
visual arts. These activities helped them explore culture, history, and lived experience
in practical, enjoyable, and meaningful ways.
Music and dance encouraged self-expression, rhythm, movement. and
confidence.
Drama and storytelling helped young people share ideas, reflect on experien￿.
and strengthen communication skills.
Visual arts offered practical ways to explore identity, creativity, heritage, and
personal expression.
Role Models and Safe Spaces
Artists, community facilitators, and cultural role models supported the sessions. Their
involvement helped create safe, respectful spa￿S where participants felt represented,
valued, and encouraged to take part. Working with people who understood or refiected
their communities helped children and young people build trust, share eXperIen￿S,
and take pride in their heritsge.
Family and Community Impact
Families were also encouraged to join selected activities, which strengthened
intergenerational relationships and supported wider community participation. Through
the arts, particularly performing arts, the programme promoted self-expression,
belonging, social connection, and confidence. It also helped children, young people,
and families experience culture as a Sour￿ of learning, pride. and long-term
community wellbeing.

East Midlands Ethnic Minority Youth Board (EMEMYB)
Supporting and empowering young people in Derby & across East Midlands by
providing mentoring, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial programmes that build
confidence, social responsibility, and self-detennination.
East Midlands Ethnic Minority Youth Board (EMEMYB) has advanced its core objective
of supporting Black and ethnic minority young people towards employment and
apprenliceships. EMEMYB has facilitated and delivered targeted workshops and
mentoring sessions, directly addressing the employability needs of local young people.
Industry professionals from Politics, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery, and
Sports Coaching (Basketball and Football) participated. providing guidance and
insight.
Key measurable changes included young people gaining professional qualification
leading to employment in private healthcare, sports, engineering, and construction.
The involvement of diverse professionals has en￿an￿d programme quality and
relevance.
Outcomes have been ovejwhelmingly positive, with participants reporting increased
confidence and awareness of career pathways. No significant negative or unexpected
issues arose. Impact measurement shows improved engagement, with higher
attendance and positive feedback. For example, several attendees have since applied
for apprentI￿shipS or work placements following direct advi￿ from mentors.
Overall, the Black Funding Network funding has had a tangible, positive impact on
EMEMYB'S objectives, strengthening its capacity to empower ethnic minority youth
and fostering meaningful connections wilh industry leaders.
Achlovement and Performance
The Charity has successfully achieved its charity aims and objectives outlined in the
charity constitution. The Trustees consider the state of affairs to be satisfactory.
