## THE STONEBARROW TRUST

## **Trustees’ Annual Report for the period**

From **1[st] April 2024** Period start date To **31[st] March 2025** Period end date

## **Objectives and Activities**

In summary, the purposes of The Stonebarrow Trust are split between Local causes and International causes.

1. Locally: to relieve sickness and poverty, to help young people develop their personal abilities to become valuable members of society; to promote local heritage; to advance the Christian Religion by providing grants to the local church of St Andrew so that it might continue to develop as a hub for wider community activities; culturally to educate the public in the art and science of music; and to promote community cohesion.

2. Internationally: the purposes extend to the relief of poverty or sickness anywhere in the world through grants to established charities in the specific areas of providing refuge for the poor and suffering in Africa and helping them to develop skills to help them gain employment self-sufficiency in the future.

The activities undertaken by the charity during this financial period are:

1. Grants to organisations relieving poverty and sickness (£7,000)

2. Grants to organisations offering refuge and employment training to homeless (£8,000)

3. A grant to a local organisation assisting with community cohesion (£1,750)

4. Grants to museum supporting local heritage (£2,827)

5. Grants to the parish church to promote wider community activities (£4,576)

Locally, charities to benefit from the trust include: a charity for the distribution of aid for those in fuel poverty; a charity supporting the homeless; a hospice offering end-of-life care; support for parish church; support for the heritage coast centre; and charities supporting community cohesion.

National and international activities include the making of donations to established charities for: assistance to orphans to acquire skills and develop future employment opportunities; provision of refuge for those who, through poverty or sickness are in need of such refuge.

The trustees can confirm that they have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit and have applied such guidance to the activities stated above.

## **Achievements and Performance**

The major achievements during this financial period have been:

1. The continued development of the framework for future distribution of grants and donations to charities with objects consistent with the purposes of The Stonebarrow Trust, both locally and internationally.

2. The documentation of a list of preferred such charities which is developing into an ongoing grant and donation policy document.

3. The distribution of more than £24,000 to such charities.

4. The appointment of a further Trustee to broaden advice, guidance and oversight given to the founding Trustees.

Where the beneficiaries are charities themselves, the grants and donations from The Stonebarrow Trust have extended the charities’ reach to their beneficiaries by increasing their income.

## **Financial Review**

The third financial period for the charity covered the period from 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025. During this period a total of £64,000 was received as donations and complemented with £16,000 Gift Aid reclaimed. Investment income from the CCLA Deposit Fund amounted to £2,447. As the distribution to good causes was established and developed, more than £24,000 was distributed to good causes both locally and internationally, in line with the trust’s objects set out in the trust deed and more than double that of the previous financial period. At the end of the period £332 remained as a cash fund together with £95,950 being invested in a Charity Investment Fund (CCLA Deposit Fund) pending future distributions.

In the light of the policies of the incoming Government, donations have increased considerably this year because of the wish of the principal donors to mitigate future inheritance tax liabilities.

With the relatively simple structure of The Stonebarrow Trust and the on-going development of future plans, no other expenditure was incurred during the current period of operation. It was not felt necessary to hold specific reserves against potential expenditure costs in the immediate future.

The charity’s current principal source of funds is from donations from the principal trustees together with the associated Gift Aid recovery.

The investment policy is to invest surplus funds pending distribution in a Charity Investment Fund account with CCLA Investment Management. As the distribution policy is developed and refined, the plan is to distribute a greater proportion of the income each year.
