Annual Report and Accounts 

Prepared and submitted by the Trustees of the Mokaraka Trust 

## **Objectives and activities** 

This year was the third year of our charitable trust.  Our trust was constituted on 24 October 2021 with four trustees Melanie Smith, Stephane Jacques Francois Hebert, Christina Marie Hawley and Maria Eleni Moutsoupoulou who remain trustees at the time of this report. 

The object of the charity is for the public benefit to promote the education (including social and physical training) of Maori and women in such ways as the charity trustees think fit, principally by awarding to such persons scholarships, maintenance allowances or grants tenable at any university, college or institution of secondary, higher, tertiary or further education. 

The trustees meet regularly to determine potential channels to award recipients and (when required) review grant applications. 

## **Achievements and Performance** 

We secured no additional donations from our trustees, having significant funds already in reserve. 

The charity pays for no employees and pays for no trustee fees. 

We provided £27,300 of funding for Chris Woods (Auckland University Professor) to support a programme which encourages more young Maori women to apply for business studies at university (Girls Mean Business) 

We awarded 2 scholarships to Auckland University via the Mokaraka Scholarship to M (NZD$15,000) https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/study/scholarships-and-awards/find-ascholarship/mokaraka-maoriwomen-in-business-scholarship-1055-bus.html 

We funded J at Victoria University for NZ $15,000 (funds paid last year) https://www.wgtn.ac.nz/scholarships/current/mokaraka-maori-women-in-business-scholarship-at-teherenga-wakavictoria-university-of-wellington 



We covered the cost of KR’s tuition for 5 years £35,000.  We continued to support TB for an additional £10.7.  We paid for KD’s accommodation at Bristol for £9k. We also awarded an additional £3.3k to MC for strong academic performance. 

## **Financial Review** 

We received 0 in donations and dispersed £93,700 in awards.  We accrued £1664 in investment interest 

Our expenses this year were for bank fees and flights to NZ to meet with recipients 

We ended the year with significant cash of £366,546 

## **Structure and governance** 

The Mokaraka Trust is constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Association (constitution filed 25 January 2022). Our trust was constituted on 24 October 2021 with four trustees Melanie Smith, Stephane Jacques Francois Hebert, Christina Marie Hawley and Maria Eleni Moutsoupoulou who remain trustees at the time of this report.
