Trustees’ Annual Report for the period from 04/02/2022 to 31/07/2023.

Charity name: Found Futures

Charity registration number:1197789

Objectives and Activities

Found Futures exists for the public benefit, the advancement of education of young people aged 11-18 in the United Kingdon, through the provision of educational materials and information media in the industry of architecture and design, to help prepare or assist such persons to gain entry into higher education and the world of work.

This year we worked towards achieving the following key objectives:

1.1 Connect with a young professional working in architecture and design to feature in our ‘demystifying architecture’ media resource series. This professional should come from an underrepresented background in the field of architecture and design.

1.2 Create a video resource showcasing an individual from an underrepresented group, working in the industry of architecture and design. The video will be between 5-10 minutes to ensure good engagement from our beneficiary audience of young people aged 11-18 years. Create and publish downloadable resources to support the video.

1.3 Gain financial sponsorship from corporations in the field of architecture and design.

2.1 Create a ‘shorts’ Q&A video series to accompany the video launch. The shorts will be based on questions generated by young people within our intended beneficiary age group of 11-18 to ensure the Q&A series is relevant to them.

2.2 Develop the charity website & publish our demystifying architecture media resources online.

  1. Network with other organizations with existing reach in architecture, design and education, to ensure effective distribution of our media resources to schools and colleges, so that our intended beneficiaries can access our resources & benefit from Found Futures.

Activities and Achievement, in relation to Objectives.

1.1 We successfully connected with Shawn Adams, a young professional working as a qualified architect who agreed to be featured in our next video.

1.2 We created a video resource showcasing Shawn’s route from education to the world of work on May 7[th] 2023. We also created and published downloadable resources to support the launch of Shawn’s video on our website.

1.3 In July 2022, in a bid to widen the charity’s network, trustees met with a David Chipperfield Architects representative to discuss the charity aims and were then connected with the London School of Architecture Head of School. Because of this meeting, Found Futures trustees attended a networking event as part of the

Architecture Race Forum in October 2022. Here trustees met with a representative from AHMM and from Vectorworks; who liked the sound of our core aims and were keen to learn more and potentially support our next project. As a consequence, Shawn's video was kindly supported by generous financial sponsorship from Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, HTA Design and Vectorworks, a Nemetschek Company.

2.1 In the buildup to the launch of Shawn’s Story we create a ‘shorts’ Q&A video series to accompany the video. The shorts were based on questions generated by young people within our intended beneficiary age group of 11-18, sourced through a secondary school in East London.

2.2 Not only did we develop the charity website & publish our demystifying architecture media resources online, but we launched a social media profile on Instagram and YouTube to complement the website.

  1. In November 2022, a charity trustee contacted a member of the RIBA education department. As a result, in March 2023, a trustee went into a West London school with the RIBA and Atkins. Our trustee sat in on the session with the students and got chatting with the teachers about Found Futures and how our resources could benefit their students.

In March 2023 we followed up with RIBA about as film project they want to do under the working title ‘How to Become an Architect.’ It has been agreed that Found Futures will produce the media resource, and the RIBA has signed off funding and are keen to get it done by the end of the year. We are excited about this project as the RIBA has excellent reach within industry and education.

In July 2023 trustees re-visited Brentside High School to meet with art and design teachers to plan a program in the next school year with Year 10's and Year 12 students.

Impact Summary

As a result of our activities:

Source of Funds

The charity’s principal source of funds was charitable donations from corporations in the architecture and design industry. We would like to extend our thanks to all those who have shown belief in Found Futures through donation of funds.

Structure, Governance and Management

The charity is governed by its three trustees who meet to review activities and make decisions on how funds are to be spent. We are pleased to confirm that trustees, when making decisions, have operated with good regard for the public benefit framework.

Trustee selection methods

If any of the charity’s three trustees wishes to step down, prospective trustees are first nominated by existing trustees, which must be given in writing. A meeting whereby the existing trustees are present is carried out with a prospective trustee, to ensure they understand the responsibilities they are taking on and can be relied on to carry them out responsibly. The meeting can take place virtually, for example over a platform such as Zoom, or in person. A decision about the suitability of the appointment should then be made within 48 hours (about 2 working days).

Volunteers

We would like to thank all those who have believed in our aims and objectives and kindly donated their time to make our activities possible this year. Your contribution is paramount to the success of Found Futures.
