INTERNATIONAL EVALUATION ACADEMY (CHARITY NO: 1197772 ENGLAND AND WALES) TRUSTEE'S' REPORT

Introduction:

As the trustees of INTERNATIONAL EVALUATION ACADEMY, we are pleased to present this report, outlining our activities and achievements for the reporting period. Our charity is committed to advancing education and science, particularly in the field of evaluation, and promoting sustainable development through environmental preservation, poverty relief, and community improvement.

Charitable Objects:

Advancing Education and Science: Our primary focus is the advancement of education and science in the field of evaluation. We are dedicated to promoting the theories, methods, and practices related to evaluation. By doing so, we aim to enhance the understanding of the merit, worth, and value of various aspects of our society.

Promoting Sustainable Development: In alignment with the principles of sustainable development, we are dedicated to:

(A)The preservation, conservation, and protection of the environment, emphasizing the prudent use of resources to ensure a sustainable future.

(B)The relief of poverty and the improvement of living conditions in socially and economically disadvantaged communities.

(C)Pursuing other related charitable purposes as determined by the trustees.

'EVALUATION' MEANS THE PROCESS OF DETERMINING THE MERIT, WORTH OR VALUE OF SOMETHING OR THE PRODUCT OF THAT PROCESS.

'SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT' MEANS DEVELOPMENT WHICH MEETS THE NEEDS OF THE PRESENT WITHOUT COMPROMISING THE ABILITY OF FUTURE GENERATIONS TO MEET THEIR OWN NEEDS.

Achievements:

During the reporting period, IEAC continued the process of establishment of the organisation, as well as its plans in fulfilling its charitable objectives from 2023-25:

The organisation revised its vision and mission to:

Vision

The Academy embraces the vision of Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the Paris Agreement in promoting a world moving away from its current destructive path to one that is regaining climate and ecosystem resilience and health and promoting sustainable livelihoods for all, with evaluation supporting evidence-informed transformational change. It is guided by the Global Evaluation Agenda that visualises a world where evaluation practices are an integral part of all governments, civil society, and private sector development efforts.

Living purpose/mission

We volunteer to contribute to the transformation, growth, professionalisation, and use of scientific evaluation practices to address the critical challenges of economic, social, and environmental sustainability. We use participatory practices and partnerships with diverse sectors of society to build, learn, share and use a credible body of knowledge about the processes and consequences of interventions aimed at building the resilience and sustainability of the world.

Foundational activities included:

●Systematising the operation of the now formally constituted Board of Trustees and Committees

●Establishing a website to showcase what the Academy does, who we are, and a discussion forum to start discussion on important evaluation topics. See the website here: https://ieac.global/

●Establishing a Council that consists of 35 members that are eminent thinkers and contributors to the evaluation field.

●Presenting on the Academy at the European Evaluation Society Conference and the ReLAC Conference in Latin America

●Starting to develop initial areas of work around transforming evaluation, including around decolonizing evaluation, principles for evaluation of system transformation

●Starting on a special edition of the Journal of Multidisciplinary Evaluation on Decolonising Evaluation, planned to be published in 2023. ●Developing a plan for 2023-25

To establish partnerships with local organisations, we have drafted our initial plans on how we will focus on the potential of evaluation to create impact on sustainable development, and particularly economically disadvantaged communities, and how evaluation can be transformative in redirecting systems and programmes to address inequality and the impending ecological crises.

Challenges:

While we have made the plan, we acknowledge the challenges we face in fulfilling our mission. These challenges include limited resources, the need for continued fundraising, and the evolving landscape of sustainable development and evaluation.

Future Plans:

In the coming year, IEAC is focusing on:

●Continuing to develop transformational programmes, collaborating with partners, to support the transformation, influence and professionalisation of evaluation as a tool for systemic change.

●Publishing the special edition of the Journal of Multidisciplinary Evaluation on Decolonising Evaluation and using this work as foundational work in thinking how evaluation needs to be transformed.

●Writing up our initial experience in a think piece on transforming evaluation

●Getting Council moving as key driver of the volunteer work of the Academy, finding the most effective ways for it to support the work of the Academy.

●Improving communication internally with Board and Council, and with the external world

●Strengthening the Secretariat as a key support function for the Academy

●Fundraising to support our work.

We extend our gratitude to our dedicated volunteers, donors, and partner organisations who have made our achievements possible. Your support has been invaluable in advancing our mission.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, we remain steadfast in our commitment to advancing the science of evaluation, promoting sustainable development, and pursuing other related charitable purposes. We are excited about the future and the positive impact we can create in line with our charitable objects.
