Mary Hodgkinson **East Leake & District Local History Society Registered Charity 1197758** ## **TRUSTEES’ REPORT TO THE MEMBERSHIP FOR SEASON 2024/25** ## **Chairman’s Review** During the year 2024/25 the Society continued to hold regular monthly meetings. The three regular shows, East Leake Carnival, West Leake Show and Sutton Bonington Show were all attended as “Outreach”. Unfortunately, it was not possible to offer for sale the second in the series of Alan Hall’s books “East Leake Past and Present” at these shows, due to production difficulties. The Chairman attended the archaeological presentation and provided a report on the Romano-British settlement found during preliminary work for the new Limes Gardens housing estate at Sutton Bonington. Since then, the chairman has been able to add to the report, information concerning the finding, in 1835, of an Anglo- Saxon period cemetery in a nearby clay pit, associated with the Hathern Brick and Terracotta works. In the Autumn of 2024, the Chairman suffered three heart attacks and a TIA (small stroke) which has limited his cognitive ability, so he has found it necessary to take a back seat and will only continue as Chairman, in the absence of any other member willing to take on the role. As the committee has frequently stated, additional members, willing to take on a specific role, would be very welcome.
