Charity name and address – The Lighthouse Darwen, Lower Chapel, Chapels, BB3 0EE

Trustees – Margaret Huggill, Peter Huggill, Rebecca Huggill, Rachel Wilding, Megan Binns, Kath Hodkinson, Danny Wilson, Claire Waring

Trustee report

The trustees are pleased to report that steady progress of the Lighthouse project is maintained. The winter weather has taken a toll on the building which will need to be addressed over the summer. Further clearance in the graveyard has been completed and we note that the infrastructure for all the new houses in the area has been started. We believe that house building will commence in around 6 months’ time. Research into the early history of the chapel continues and there has a slow but steady flow of interest in the building.

There has been an inquiry about the Reverend Henry Towsend who came to Darwen in 1796 to minister to a small congregation of ex members of lower chapel and this work is ongoing.

The community use is maintained, and the chapel is an important contributor to the social wellbeing of the local community. As the new houses are completed it is proposed that the use of the chapel will expand and the trustees seek to make this a centra of the new community at Holden Fold.

The trustees are pleased to report a small increase in their financial position despite the significant increase in gas and electric charges.
