Subs Increase: Fiona explained that with all the costs rises, current subs does not cover costs. 1[st] Keyham will increase subs from £120 a year to £120 a year (from £10 a month to £12.50 a month) from 1[st] January 2025. Discount for siblings living at same address will remain at £7.50 per month.

**GLV Report 2024/25** 

## Good Evening, 


It’s an honour to welcome you all to our AGM, which is also a celebration of our achievements over the past 12 months. A special welcome to guests from Plymouth District Scouts, and to all those representing our wider community—your presence here tonight reminds us of the vital role Scouting plays not just within our group, but across Keyham and beyond. 

This year has been extraordinary. Our young people have shown incredible commitment, creativity, and courage—earning an impressive **1,452 badges** across all sections. From outdoor adventures to community service, from learning new skills to supporting one another, these badges represent far more than achievements. They tell the story of growth, resilience, and teamwork. 

Our group now proudly includes **160 young people** and **50 dedicated volunteers** —a testament to the strength of our programme and the trust placed in us by families and friends. This growth isn’t just about numbers; it’s about impact. Every new Scout and every new volunteer brings fresh energy, ideas, and potential to our community. 

I would like to thank our young people for their enthusiasm, kindness, and willingness to try new things. You are the heartbeat of this group, and we couldn’t be prouder of what you’ve accomplished. 

To our parents, carers, and wider families: thank you for your unwavering support. Whether it’s helping with transport, cheering from the sidelines, or simply encouraging your child to take part— you make this possible. 

To our volunteers: thank you for your time, your passion, and your belief in the power of Scouting. You are the mentors, the role models, and the magic-makers behind everything we do. 

I’ve always believed that 1st Keyham is more than just a group—it’s a cornerstone of youth engagement in our community. We offer a space where young people can explore who they are, discover what they are capable of, and build friendships that last a lifetime. And as we grow, so does our impact—reaching into schools, neighbourhoods, and families to create opportunities that ripple far beyond the Scout hall. 

As we look ahead, we remain committed to being a place of adventure, inclusion, and inspiration. We will continue to shape futures, strengthen our community, and ensure that every young person has the chance to meet their potential.

## **2025 Squirrels Section Report** 


This year has once again been full of excitement, friendship and adventure for our Squirrels! 

We’ve celebrated 12 Squirrels moving up to Beavers, and both Dreys are now full to the brim with 18 children each. The demand is still incredibly high, with several under-4s already on the waiting list, counting down the days until they can join in the fun. 

Our leadership team has grown too, and we now have 13 leaders and 5 young leaders. We’ve welcomed Summer, Ella and April this year, joining Georgia (and of course Mila, who continues to help as a Leader’s child helper). Sadly, Tha, SeaPig and Rocky have moved on to their own new adventures, but we’ve also welcomed Meerkat, Acorn and Annette to the team. Our Zog Squirrels are especially keen to expand their leadership team, so if any parents (or other grown-ups) have a little spare time on a Monday, we’d love to hear from you! The Squirrel leaders and young leaders have been absolutely incredible especially the young leader, we literally couldn’t run without them and the Squirrels adore them. 

Over the year we’ve awarded an incredible 449 badges, including 11 Chief Scout Acorns. A huge thank you goes to our leadership team: Kris, Larrah, Katie, Bethany, Heather, Lauren, AJ, Colette, Abi, Matt, Chelsea, Annette, as well as our young leaders Ella, April, Summer, Georgia and Mila. 

Nights away continue to be a highlight. So far this year we’ve completed three, with another planned for November. One Squirrel will even move up to Beavers having already completed 8 nights away (a huge achievement for a 4- or 5-year-old!) Several of these nights have been spent under canvas outdoors, which is something we’re really proud of. 

We’ve enjoyed a mixture of sleepovers and camps, from themed events in the hut to a fantastic district SquirrelFest at Blindman’s Wood. There, we joined other groups for activities like rock climbing, archery and science experiments and once again our little ones showed just how brave they can be. 

This year we were also very lucky to receive a generous donation from local charity _Hearts & Smiles Together_ . Thanks to them, we were able to take the Squirrels on some amazing trips to Wildwood Devon and on a coach to Camel Creek. The children were fantastic — polite, enthusiastic and fearless in trying new rides and activities (even ones some of our leaders were a bit chicken to try!).

Once again, our Squirrels have amazed us with their energy, imagination and resilience. They throw themselves into everything we do, and we couldn’t be more proud. Finally, as always, we want to thank our wider 1st Keyham team and our Squirrel’s families for supporting, celebrating and championing our youngest members. 



## **Beavers Section Report 2025** 


The last 12 months has been full of fun, adventure, learning and friendships. In terms of badges the Beavers have earned in total 480 badges in the last year with many of these also achieving their Chief Scout Bronze Award so a massive well done to all those. We have seen our numbers grow massively over the past few months with many Squirrels moving up to join us, welcome to these families. Over the last 12 months the Beavers have a done a wide range of badge work things like learning about themselves, builder, we looked at global issues and what we can do to help the planet, we looked at our space badge and learned about planets and stars, we looked at healthy eating and how to stay fit by exercising and getting plenty of sleep (whether this happens is a different story). We also did our disability badge, and we learned that not all disabilities are visible. The list is endless with what we have done this is just a sample of what your young people have achieved. Alongside these we have visited a variety of places this year which have been both enjoyable and educational. We visited the HSBC bank to learn about money, we have visited the local church to learn about faith, we had our group session swim Tinside Lido although chilly was enjoyed by many. We took a trip to Ernesettle creek for some nature fun which included pond dipping and bug hunting. One of my highlights was the trip to the Fleet Air Arm Museum which was a fun enjoyable day. Over the summer the beavers invaded scouts summer camp we took a boat which they all enjoyed. The scouts taught them some pioneering skills and fire lighting. They also cooked some cheese toasties on the fire for lunch. Thank you for the invite scouts you all were amazing with the beavers. As part of the explore Plymouth badge we took the beavers on an open top bus tour of the city, and we saw many historical sites. 

The beavers also did some learning about scouting across the world which linked into many of them taking part in our JOTI weekend where they spoke online to scouts from many different countries. We had our annual parliament week session where we learned about the Houses or Parliament and what goes on plus what is an election and we did some voting. Our local police officers came down to do a session whereby they did some fun activities with them and learning about stranger danger and they got to sit in their police car and have a play around with the lights and some equipment. In the last 12 months we have has two camps one was with another group in Crownhill this was at Bindman's Wood. Where they learned many camping skills also, they had a bonus of an ice-cream man visit. We have just had a 2 day very wet but 



fun camp in Walkham valley despite the rain we had some fun around a fire and managed a hike. 

Some of our badge work looks as celebrations and festivals so we have looked at and learned about many festivals and celebrations such as Chinese New Year, Burns night, Founders Day, Halloween, Christmas. We took part in the district St George's Day parade at Argyle. We also took part in Remembrance Day where we paraded through Keyham to the church for a short service. Over the next 12 months we look forward to planning many more exciting fun activities, trips and adventures. 

Anyway, I could go on longer but ill end it there. Before I finish, I would like to thank my team of leaders Cordelia, Caroline, Liam, Caitlyn, Matt, Laura, and Katie. Plus, our young leaders Lewis, Dylan, Mitchell, Bailey and Lulia who have been a big asset to our team. Also, I would like to thank some other leaders for stepping in to help or running sessions such as archery so thanks to Chris, Sam, Maisie, and Emma. I'm sure there's more but a massive thanks. One last thing (i promise) a huge thanks to you the parents, carers and beavers for coming joining in and making what we do so amazing. Thank you 



**Cubs ‘Eagles’ Report 2025** 


We have had another busy year, and currently have 26 Cubs on the books. During the last year we have taken part in many activities, including (but not limited to!); a trip to the Fleet Air Arm Museum, a visit to the fire station and Pets at Home, a treasure map day on the Hoe, glass etching, teddy bear first aid, pioneering, archery, photography run by our young leaders, and much more. 

We also took part in the Remembrance Day Parade at Devonport Park, JOTI, St Georges Day, and Tug of War. 

We have had three camps in the last year; A winter sleepover at the Scout Hut where the Cubs pioneered a swingset, A Easter Camp in Yelverton and a Pirate themed Summer Camp in Bickley. A BIG thank you to all the leaders and parents who have helped make these camps possible! 

Over the last year the Cubs have earned 225 badges, including 2 Chief Scout Silvers, the highest award in Cubs. 

Some of the Badges the Cubs have earned include; Air Activities, Musicians, Swimmer, Nautical Skills Stage Badges, Backwards Cooking, Book Reader, Pioneer, Home Safety, Home Help. Road Safety and Chef Activity Badges, Teamwork, Team Leader, Outdoor and Skills Challenge Awards. 

Our two Young Leaders have completed their Young Leader Training over the last year, which included planning and running a couple of pack nights for the Cubs. Congratulations to Ikki and Mang, without their enthusiasm we would not be able to provide such a varied program. 

As always we would not be able to do any of this without the help and support of the group leadership team, all the parents who have helped us throughout the year, and especially the Cubs who come back week after week.

BEARS Section Report for AGM 12/9/25 


Before I get into the Report I would just like to say a huge personal Thank You to all of the Leaders and Young Leaders who stepped in and helped to keep the Pack running whilst I was laid up – Thank You all! 

Our number have been up and down this year. We started the year with 19 Cubs, 4 Leaders and one Young Leader (N’Kima), over the year we have Invested 14 new Cubs, had some go up to Scouts, a couple transferred to Eagles and some left so we now have a Pack of 15 Cubs, the same 4 Leaders and 3 Young Leaders (N’Kima, Buzzie and Dizzy). 

As always the Cubs have been earning Badges, around 193 this year with 40 Challenge awards earned plus 6 x Chief Scout’s Silver Awards, well, nearly. Eoghan and Jet had theirs presented in May (Very Well Done you two!) and T-J, Sophia, Liana & Felix are due to complete theirs over the weekend of 11/12[th] Oct – I have to apologise as they would have completed in June if I’d been fit. 

Badges earned have been across a wide range of activities, skills and interests from Backwoods Cooking to Communicator, Camping to Scientist, Hiking to Naturalist, Cyclist to Photographer, Environmental Conservation to Skater, Computers to Paddle Sports, Swimmer to Air Activities and many many more. 

On our pack evenings we have done World Challenge, Archery (3 times), Fund Raising, Forums (x3), Faiths and Cultures, Cotton Candy, Halloween party & Traditions, 3 x Games Nights, Music with Hand Chimes, Ocarinas and improvised percussion, Scouting Basics, Law, Promise and Behaviour, Christmas Party, 2 x digital Citizen evenings, Knots, Nerf guns, Mapping the Minefield, Astronomy, Science Experiments, Making Mother’s Day Presents, Grid references, Contours and Bearings. The Sixers taught their sixes Fire Lighting Techniques, we had Reaction Rockets, Built Catapults, Twangers and Throwing Machines. Tent Pitching and Care, a number of Cub Led evenings, Emergency Aid and Teddy First Aid and worked on the ‘You Shape’ Award. Also they raised a huge amount of stock (plus £50) for Plymouth Soup Run. 

We have also done Orienteering in Central Park, had an evening at Blind Man’s Wood for Sisal Trail, Wide Games, Fires and Songs. 16 Cubs visited the Incinerator and 10 Cubs had a tour of the Nuclear Submarine HMS Courageous. 5 went on the trip to the Air Museum, virtually the whole Pack attended the Remembrance Parade in Devonport Park and 18 were on the St. George’s Day Parade in Central Park. 9 Cubs took part in JOTI and 11 Fantastic Cubs joined us at the annual  Tug-o-War and Won the Cub Trophy for the second year running. 



As if all that wasn’t enough, there were 13 Cubs at our June Camp, 11 attended the Cub Fun & Lido with the Eagles, 4 joined Thursday Cubs on their Summer Camp and 3 got soaked at the River Splash & Feed. 

I would just like to apologise that we had to run a slightly reduced programme for part of the year (and were only able to put on one camp) but now I’m sorted out (ish) and with a fantastic team of Young Leaders to help, despite Baloo’s and Nushka’s ongoing health issues, we will be back to normal for the coming year. Plus N’Kima turns 18 at the end of the month and has agreed to start on the path to becoming an Adult Leader. 

So, all that remains is to thank everyone who has helped us this year, Parents, Leaders, committee Members and, most importantly, our young People – Cubs, Scouts and Young Leaders, Thank You all 

From The Bears Leadership Team 



## **Section Report 24-25** 


Numbers in the Scout section have fluctuated as we have had new ones join us and old ones leave, we are currently 45 young people which is 4 more than last year, so numbers have been good as usual 

As usual we have had a very busy year and an exciting programme. We have had are usual array of camps, including Christmas sleep over at the hall, Winter at Pier Cellers, Easter at Yelverton, May at Callisham, PL’s & APL’s training camp at Glenholt, summer at Hoe lake point (Mt Edgcombe), our SPL took 6 other Scouts away on a passport camp, this is where the Scout in charge plan run and organise a camp by themselves, including programme, risk assessments, menu's,, shopping, communication with parents, equipment and basically everything a leader would need to do to run a camp. This is done with little involvement from us and no leaders in attendance (the use of mobile phones made this easier).  We also had 7 Scouts complete their Expedition challenge which is a 2 day hike with remote supervision from leaders, so again all decisions and planning come from the young people. 

Our Scouts have also visited Drakes island, for an historical tour, they have also visited a care home to sing some carols and helped a local primary school dismantle their wooden playground, joined the rest of the group at Plymouth Lido, and as usual we have also been involved with district events, such as St Georges day and Tug o’ war as well as supporting on the Hoe with Remembrance Day parade. 

As usual a very active programme, with great growth within our young people, allowing us to be able to put on these activities and for them to lead many of the activities themselves. We have had a massive 596 badges awarded this year (these are listed below) and this has only been achievable due to the dedication and enthusiasm of our Scouts and of course the support and sacrifice of time given by our leadership team. 

A big thank you to the District for their support and the overarching leadership team within Keyham, the support and time are always appreciated.  A huge thank you to our 3 SPL’s as they always go above and beyond and fully support all of the Scouts and are an amazing link between the Leadership team and young people. And of course a huge thank you to the Scout Leadership team, lots of which run other sections and all of which are always there on additional activities and helping in the background of the group, not just a troop night. So a huge thank you!

## **Financial situation at 31/3/25.** 

Please see following pages showing our end of year accounts.  We currently have funds to the value of £26,435.11. Of these funds £9283 are restricted funds, these are monies which we have received in the form of grants.  We had cash funds of £17,152 at the end of the year. 

## **Cash Funds** 

This is made up from all subs received, Gift Aid for two years on subs, funds received for activities and camps, sales of scarfs, hire of the hall, donations and fundraising.

Our annual membership to the Scout Association is our single largest cost, in on 1/4/24 this was calculated at £57.50 for each young person at a cost of £7762.50 

Our subs were increased from £10 pm to £12.50 pm on 1/1/25 to cover rising costs of scout membership, running the hall, funding section evenings and the cost of badges. 

All camps and activities are self-funding with no subsidy from our normal income.  Our income this year was £11814 and expenditure was £13715.  This difference is mainly due to collection of income for Easter Camp which would have been collected in the previous year (23/24). 

Over the year our cash receipts were £34565 and cash payments were £34484. A small surplus of £81.  If the camp and activities are taken out of this the receipts were £22751 and payments were £20769 leaving a surplus of £1981.

During 24/25 we spent £4342, this is more than we received in Grants during the same period, so the accounts show a deficit of £1042.  But this is acceptable as it the correct spending of grants we have received in previous years. 

## **Looking Forward** 

The increase in subs has enabled us to run the Group with a small surplus.  However, we need to monitor this carefully.  In 25/26 Scout membership increased from £57.50 per young person to £65.  Our invoice on 1/4/25 was £9165.  We expect Gift Aid for 24/25 to be in the region of £2300.  Currently we are not looking at increasing subs, but may need to look at an increase within the next two financial years. 

As a Group we have applied for a Community Asset Transfer for some land to the right of our current fence.  This is now near completion, there have been various legal costs, the Trustee Board has agreed that these will come out of the Business Covid 19 Grant.  This will be shown in next year’s accounts. 

We have been granted a pledge in the region of £24,000 from the North Yard Grant, this will be used to improve our toilets and make them fully accessible and create a doorway at the bottom of the hall to the Snug and Master of Arms area.  All these improvements will benefit all users of the hall.
