Fiona Crossland presented financial report and accounts, accounts included in AGM 2024 pack but will also share on Facebook. 

Subs Increase: Fiona explained that with all the costs rises, current subs doesn’t cover costs. 1[st] Keyham will increase subs from £120 a year to £120 a year (from £10 a month to £12.50 a month) from 1[st] January 2025. Discount for siblings living at same address will remain at £7.50 per month. Trustee Board Members approved the final accounts.

## **– Group Scout Leader Report 2023/24** 

We are delighted to welcome you all here today to our AGM.  Our group continues to thrive across all sections.  You will hear about all the exciting and fun activities all the sections have been up to in the past year. 

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome members of the District attending this evening and to thank Plymouth Scouts for their continued support. 

The 1st Keyham family is now 218 strong, made up of 176 young people and 42 volunteers, which shows a healthy growth. I would like to thank all of our leaders who give up their time freely in order to run so many activities that provide opportunities for our young people to have fun, make friends, learn new skills and discover what they are truly capable of. 

The number of badges is an easy figure to use to measure our success (it’s 2,089 since last year’s AGM), but what that figure does not tell you is how brave the Squirrels were when they spent their first night away from home. How the Beavers felt when they reached the top of the climbing wall. How fast those Cubs were going on the Go-Kart circuit, or how much the Scouts enjoyed cooking their own dinner, and then bedding down for the night in a shelter they made themselves. This is the power of Scouting, and it is a privilege for us to be able to provide these experiences for our young people. 

I would like to thank all the Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts for attending so well. You are the reason we have this group, and you are the reason why we want to make Scouting a positive experience for you.  I also need to thank all the parents and carers for all of their support. 

We would like to take this opportunity to ask our parents if they would be able to help us.  We are very lucky to have our own hall and land, but this takes time to look after. We are planning a work day on Sunday 13th October from 1pm to 3pm.  We would be very grateful if any parents/friends/supporters of 1st Keyham would be able to help. Many hands make light work. 

As you may be aware we currently have two Group Scout Leaders, Fiona is stepping down from this role, leaving the group in the capable hands of Chris.  Fiona will be taking on the role of Group Admin and is up for election as Treasurer.

## **- Squirrels AGM Report 23 24** 


We’re now well into our second year for our Squirrels and as a result of our high demand and long waiting lists, have successfully opened a second Drey. Our Zog Squirrels meeting on Mondays and Gruffalo Squirrels meeting on Thursdays. We’ve had 14 Squirrels move up to Beavers and one has gone on an adventure to New Zealand with intentions of becoming a Kea! 

We currently have 16 Squirrels in each Drey, with several children under the age of 4 on the waiting list waiting eagerly for their 4th birthday! We currently have 12 leaders and 3 more in the pipeline! We also have 2.5 Young Leaders, welcoming Grace recently, and recruiting Mila as a Leader Child on top of our existing Young Leader Georgia. A huge thank you to the three of them, who connect with our Squirrels on a whole different level and support them in ways us mere adults could only dream of! 

We’ve awarded an incredible 419 badges, including 14 Chief Scout Acorn badges! I’d like to take the opportunity to extend a huge thank you to our Leadership team: Claire, Dave, Kris, Larrah, Abi, Matt, Katie, Beth, Chelsea, Kiera & Colette and Young Leaders Georgia, Grace & Mila. 

We’re aiming to complete 4 nights away per year, and this far have completed 3, with our Christmas Sleepover at the hut, visited by Santa himself, an Undokai Camp (Japanese Sports Day and culture themed Camp) & most recently our summer Festival themed camp at Glenholt. Our final camp of the year is hoping to be at Barbican Theatre! This year has seen both Larrah and Claire achieve their Nights Away Permits too! 

We’ve continued to blow minds with our Squirrely abilities! And have engaged in a huge range of activities that have encompassed core scouting skills, fun and life skills. We’ve been on **external visits including:**

- Lambing Live 

- St George’s Day 

- Tug of War 

- Marley Park gardening with Plymouth City Council 

- Wembury Beach

We’re frequently blown away by our Squirrels and their amazing capabilities and wish to take a minute to extend our thanks to our 1st Keyham family who help us celebrate and advocate for our smallest but often mightiest young people.

## **- Beavers AGM Report 23 24** 

Hello all, we have had yet another jam-packed year with the Beavers. This has been a year of fun, adventure, learning and friendships. In total the Beavers have earned 516 badges with 9 achieving their Chief Scout Bronze Award so a massive well done to all those. We have seen our numbers grow massively over the past 6 months with many Squirrels moving up to join us. 

Over the last 12 months the Beavers have a done a wide range of badge work things like nature activities which have involved a visit from the bugs life man, bug hunting, we visited a farm and did nature trails and tree rubbing and identification, the big bird watch, we visited ham woods and built dens. We were also lucky enough to be invited to allotments next door to our hall to understand how plants grow and develop. 

We have visited a variety of places this year which have been both enjoyable and educational. We visited the Apple store, camels head fire station, Tinside Lido, Cadover Bridge with the squirrels. We took them on a train from Keyham to Calstock and walked from there to Cotehele house which was a great day and I think we tired them out. The Beavers really enjoyed walking around the local area doing a chippy hike sampling the delights from many local chippies. For our community impact badge we visited the incinerator and learned about what happens to all our waste. For our faith badge we visited the local synagogue and St Marks church to learn about different faiths. As a fun activity we took them for a session at Clip n Climb which was a really enjoyable experience. 

Some other activities we have done are cooking, skills, problem solving, communicator, and air activities. The beavers also did some learning about scouting across the world which linked into many of them taking part in our JOTI weekend. We learned about different disabilities and understood that not all are visible. They definitely enjoyed the water fight and games where they got us soaked. 

We have looked at and learned about many festivals and celebrations such as Chinese New Year, Burns night, Founders Day, Halloween, Christmas, St George's Day parade and Remembrance Day. We also invited the beavers to take part in a sponsored walk around Burrator to raise money for the group and also the local Keyham community shed. Well done to all those who took part and raised money. 

We have planned many more exciting fun activities already for the rest of this year and heading into next year. Anyway I could go on longer but ill end it there. Before I finish I would like to thank my team of leaders Nikki, Cordelia, Caroline, Liam, Caitlyn, Sarah, Matt, Beth our young leaders Katie and Freya. Chris, thank you for helping with Fridays too. Also a wider thank you to the leaders from other sections who have stepped up and helped on section nights and any off site visits we have done.

## **‘Bears’ Cub Pack Report 23-24** 

Our Numbers have stayed pretty steady this year and we currently have 24 on the books, but 2 of them have just started their linkup to Scouts.  Over the course of this year the Cubs have earned a number of Badges, 303 to be precise, over 42 different topics/activities. The haul this year has included 4 x Chief Scout’s Silver awards which were well and truly earned by Ava, Charlie, Emily and Lex… more about them in a bit. 

As a Pack we have enjoyed all sorts of activities and events, some of which have been: 

Mapwork, Hikes, a Lego Challenge, Games Nights, 2 x Full Day Activity Days at the Scout Hut including building large pioneering structures, Backwoods Cooking Badge, Communicator Badge, Flaming Boats and much more.  They have done Shooting and Archery, Mimes and Escape Rooms. At Christmas (with almost no rehearsals) they put on a show for their parents including ‘Bears Have Talents’, a Nativity, Sketches, Carols and Action Campfire Songs (for the parents to join in). 

We had an educational trip to Dartmoor Zoo and played both courses at Paradise Golf. Had Back to Basics Night and Leadership Challenges. Travelled by Train to (and back from) our April Camp at Drummers Lodge in Cornwall where they built Ships and Shelters, did the Athlete and Athlete + Badges, had Fires, Sea Shanties and a Cup Dance, plus loads more… 

The Cubs have taken part in a number of Pack Forums, Wildlife Studies and the Tug-o-War where one of our Teams Won.  We have had Fire Lighting and Fire Safety, Games from Foreign Cubs, Practical Problem Solving, D Day Anniversary, Water Games, Obstacle Courses and took part in St. George’s Day and Remembrance Day Parades. 

We joined the Scouts for their River Splash & Buffet and at the Tinside Lido and we had a Very successful Harry Potter Themed Camp at Callisham Cross which included all the usual: Fires, 8 Km Treasure Hunt, Games, Building things, Quidditch, Herbology, Potions Etc. 

I said I’d come back to our Silvers.. for their Personal Challenge they had to plan and carry out a 2 day expedition on Dartmoor. They had to plan their route, work out distances & timings (which they stuck pretty close to over the weekend) what kit & equipment they’d need, their menu, what they’d need for cooking and how to do second day’s lunch. Who they needed to inform and what safety measures to take, first aid kits Etc. The Exped itself was very much about Teamwork and how to adapt to different challenges including changing their route when things weren’t quite as planned.. They were shadowed by 2 Leaders but we had hardly anything at all to do throughout (apart from when Lex banged his head) as they coped with everything wonderfully and not one single argument. When there were differences of opinion they discussed the problem and came up with a solution – Brilliant! 

Finally, Thank you to the Committee and Leaders of the Group but, mostly, to Our Cubs for another Brilliant Year. THANK YOU - The Bears Leadership Team 




## **Cubs “Eagles” Report 23-24** 

We have had another busy year, with 25 Cubs on the books. During the last year we have taken part in many activities, including (but not limited to!); a visit to Plymouth Synagogue, Parliament week, making 4 outdoor benches, a sixers and seconders training day, a visit from green minds, and several evenings being planned and run by Cubs as part of their YouShape Award. 

We also took part in the Remembrance Day Parade at Devonport Park, JOTI, St Georges Day and Tug of War. 

We have had 3 camps in the last 12 months; A camp last October at Blindmans Wood, where the Cubs did lots of baking. A Disney themed Easter Camp in St Austell, and a Caveman themed Summer Camp at Callisham Cross. A big thankyou to all the leaders and parents that have helped make these camps possible. 

Over the last year the Cubs have earned 525 badges, including 8 Chief Scout Silver Awards, the highest award a Cub can earn. We have also, for the first time, had a cub complete every activity and challenge badge available in Cubs, congratulations George! 

Some of the badges the cubs have earned include; Astronomer, Athletics, Book Reader, DIY, Gardener, International, Emergency Aid and many many more. 

We have expanded our leadership team this year with 2 young leaders, Ikki and Mang, who have done an amazing job fitting right in and taking the initiative when things get hectic. 

As always we would not be able to do any of this without the help and support of the group leadership team, all the parents who have helped us throughout the year, and especially the Cubs who come back week after week.

## **Scouts Section Report 23-24** 


Numbers in the Scout section have been up all year, we are currently 41 young people which is 3 more than last year, however we have also sent up 14 Scouts to Explorers, so numbers have been good all year. 

As usual we have had a very busy year and an exciting programme. We have had are usual array of camps, including Winter camp at Hay tor, Easter camp at Drummers lodge, Summer camp at Ham Farm, our 2 SPL’s took 5 other Scouts away on a passport camp, this is where the Scouts themselves plan run and organise a camp by themselves, with little involvement from us and no leaders in attendance (the use of mobile phones, made this easier).  We also had 12 Scouts complete their Expedition challenge which is a 2 day hike with remote supervision from leaders, so again all decisions and planning come from the young people. 

We have also taken part in a 6 week programme of water sports  with Mt Batten, Jamboree on the Internet (Joti), Remembrance day on the Hoe, attended the local panto, had a working day at poole farm, we visited the incinerator, took part in the district Tug o’ War, 1 of our scouts lead the troop on a gym session which was a new experience for most. 

We have also worked alongside the Youth service, with an open event at the Aquarium and use of the Lido over summer 

5 of our Scouts visited an elderly gentleman at a care home, they helped him build a birdhouse and listened to his stories of when he was a Scout as well as talking to him about what they do. This was a great opportunity to give something meaningful back into the community and is definitely something we plan on doing again. 

As you can see we have had a very busy year and not even mentioned our week to week meetings as we would be here all night. However, if you see the table at the end, it will give you an idea of the things we have done by the badges we have awarded. 

A huge, huge thank you to all our current Scouts, the maturity and the way they have stepped up after having 12 of our oldest move up has been great, it has allowed us to put on more interesting activities as behavior and enthusiasm has been great. A big thank you to parents for supporting our young people to attend all of our great activities. 

A big thank you to to the District for their support, the overarching leadership team with in Keyham, as we are a great team and work as well as we do, as we help and support each other, and a greater thank you to the Scout leadership team, as always going above to make things happen and very much made up of leaders from other sections so are always very busy, yet always able to put on a great programme.

## **' - Treasurer s Report 23 24** 

Please have a look at the final accounts for the year.  I am happy to answer any questions. 

Looking at our income last year, we received £15,668 in Subs, Hall Hire and fundraising.  This money is the core funds for our group.  It is this money that finances the running of the building, pays membership of the scout association and section nights.  Our costs for this last year were £16,766.  As you can see we are not raising enough money to cover our costs.  There have been increases in all our expenses, membership, utility costs, badges etc, and we are expecting more increases over the next year. 

Due to this we have made the difficult decision to increase our subs from £10 pcm (£120 per year) to £12.50 pcm (£150 per year).  This will take effect from 1st January 2025.  There will still be a discount for siblings but this will rise from £6 to £7.50 pcm.  Letters will be going out later this month. 

We received an additional £5014 in Grants.  This money has restricted use, and must be used for the purpose the grant was given.  £500 was used to fund Science Week earlier this year.  The rest of the money is from the Co-Op Community Fund and will be used for equipment for outdoor and adventurous activities and improvements of the building. 

Our camps and activities are self funded.  The accounts show an income of £16,537 and expense of £11,331.  The difference here is due to income received in one financial year for an activity in the next financial year.  This year three sections had an Easter Camp in early April at the start of the financial year.
