Investment policy:  North Wales Africa Society (NWAS) does not hold investments and does not have an investment policy. 

## Annual accounts 

The  General Secretary / Treasurer confirms  that  the  accounts  for  2022 - 2023  comply  with  current statutory  requirements  and the requirements of Norh Wales Africa Society (NWAS) governing document (Constitution). The General Secretary / Treasurer presents their report with financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31[st] March 2023. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Statement of Recommended Practice on Accounting and Reporting by Charities issued by  the Charity Commission 2005 (SORP 2005). 

Incoming resources were £67,299.00 in 2022/2023, representing an increase of 23% (from £52,125.00) in 2021/2022. Grants  represented  the  principal  funding  source,  accounting  for  £65,928.94  or  97.9%  of total  income (98.0%  in  2021/2022).  Total  resources  expended  amounted  to  £57,457.91 (85.4%) of which consisted of resources expended on operational projects. 

The North Wales African society (NWAS) are working for a more positive outlook in the next financial year. we believe that the resources and time  spent  during  2022 / 23  will yield  results  and  improve  the  level of  unrestricted  funds  in  future  years.  The Executives will continue working on fundraising strategy to ensure a sustainable future for North Wales Africa Society (NWAS). 

## STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DIRECTOR AND  EXCEUTIVES OF NWAS 

The Director and Executives are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. 

The Directors and Executives are responsible for ensuring that this report is prepared in accordance with charity law of England and Wales.

## **SUMMARY OF THE MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE CHARITY DURING THE YEAR.** 


**Spring:** The Bangor Africa Caribbean Centre (BACC) celebrated its one year anniversary and  Africa day 2022 on the 25[th] of May 2022, with the ceremony well attended. NWAS also hosted and organised a broad range of activities (Educational, Health related, creative arts, social integration and social activities) which were beneficial to both the BAME and  local community  I.e., Celebration of Windrush day 2022 (Lecture & interactive Session), free family workshop-BLAS Pontio book club which resulted in the publishing of a book. NWAS also hosted a young  voters registration project for BAME co-ordinated by NWREN with African Caribbean Society (ACS) members in attendance. 

**Summer:** Members of the DMS project NWAS heritage project for families with mixed heritage (African/Caribbean & Welsh/British)  organised a summer carnival showcase which was well attended by the local community and members of NWAS. A youth / kid’s summer programme organised by the members of the Education Committee was a success and was also well attended by members. NWAS also collaborated with the Great Big Green week (GBGW) for the Bangor Big green week, with a formal launch and awareness day, with over 20 - 30 members of NWAS taking part in activities over a 3 day period. The Covid-19 recovery programmes funded by the National Lottery Community Fund (NLCF), and the Jamii II project was also launched. 

**Autumn:** Black History Month Awards organised by NWAS and held in Llandudno was also attended by over 50 members and non-members. NWAS also hosted visitors from Size of Wales and Uganda who are involved in planting trees in Uganda. NWAS also hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness, Prostate Cancer and Mental Health Workshop at the BAC centre funded by the BCUHB. NAWS also organised a welcome party for new students, while the Education Committee organised a trip to Chester Zoo for kids funded by the NLCF. 

Extras: Culturally appropriate food parcels funded by the NLCF was a success, with  over 300 beneficiaries (including students, mature students with families, residents and residents with families. The beneficiaries mostly comprised of Black (BAME) families across North Wales: Gwynedd, Denbighshire and Conwy. Volunteers were involved in organising the purchasing and distribution of the food parcels.
