Cycling Tynedale Annual Trustees Report 2024-25

Introduction

This is the third Annual Report since Cycling Tynedale became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on 26.1.2022.

The Charity’s Objects (the Objects) are to promote cycling for the public benefit in and around Tynedale as a means of furthering the following charitable purposes:

(3) The promotion of cycling for the public benefit, by promoting, assisting, facilitating, and protecting the use of bicycles and similar vehicles on public roads and publicly accessible routes.

(4) The promotion of public safety, particularly on the highways.

(5) The promotion of healthy recreation in the interests of social welfare.

The CIO Structure

The CIO started this third period (01/04/2024-31/03/2025) with 3 Trustees : Graham Patton/Treasurer, James Swabey/second signatory and minute taker and Jane Evans/Membership Secretary. Jane Evans resigned as a trustee and Membership secretary. Her role as both Membership secretary and trustee was taken on by Deborah Aubrook in May24. Rob Aubrook also became a trustee in May 24. The Committee was expanded early in the year by Alan Mitcham joining as Safeguarding Officer. In addition Jeff Wild joined the committee later in the year.

Finances

The financial performance of Cycling Tynedale during this reporting period were Receipts £771, Payments £643 and Reserves £9079

The accounts were again independently examined by Brian English

Membership

Membership stood at 48. Annual subscriptions are individually £15, Household at £20. Collected annually by the date of 31.3. Most members are local to Tynedale with just a handful based further afield who only attend rides and events occasionally.

Activities

Ride Programme: Club rides have been a mix of multi-day rides, day rides and weekday evening rides. Whilst the number of ride leaders has gradually increased in 2024-2025 the bulk of the ride leading during 2023-24 fell on the Treasurer and Rob Aubrook’s shoulders. The Monday night ‘ride and chat’ series of road rides from midmay to mid-august proved very popular. They brought in a number of new members. Rob Aubrook led a series of 11 gravel rides that tested out the new Rievers Routes north of the Tyne. Other successes were a well attended gravel day ride in Dumfriesshire, 2 rides that mixed urban and mountain riding around Edinburgh and a multi-day off road ride centring on Reeth in N Yorkshire.

Support For Access:

A number of major regional access projects are still currently in the planning/feasibility stages. These are being brought under the umbrella of the emerging Tynedale Cycling Strategy which Rob Aubrook has been instrumental in leading. He has also been representing the clubs interests on the Northumberland walking and Cycling Board. The Club has been quietly developing a more formal role in the future regional development of cycling and sustainable transport. The club supported financially, with volunteers and ride leadership the inaugural “On Yer Bike’ event held for one day in a traffic free Hexham. We can now see that in future we will be able to use the clubs modest project funds to help unlock far more major funding. We held a one day first aid course which was well attended by members and volunteers from a local partnership organisation, Cycling Minds. We supported Forestry England when they formally reopened the Kielder ‘Lonesome Pine’ trail after extensive remodelling following Storm Arwen. This event gained superb TV coverage. Throughout the year we have also been advising and supporting Hexham’s Cycling Mayor.
