Trustees’ Annual Report
Objectives and Activities
Purpose: The object of the CIO for the public benefit is to advance the education of children in the UK, in particular but not exclusively, in the breadth of career opportunities, breaking down preconceived stereotypes, by providing diverse career role models; learning activities focused on developing a broad set of skills with the objective of strengthening self-belief and self-confidence; and resources for schools and parents to help support their child’s learning.
Main Activities: Romodels provides opportunities for primary school pupils to discover experience and believe in a world of career possibilities regardless of background or their own lived experiences through an online learning resource for schools.
Trustees’ commitment: The trustees of Romodels adhere to guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
Achievements and Performance
Achievements: Our first year included a listening tour with feedback from 120 educational professionals and parents on the aspirations they wanted for their learners and children in the future. Much of the first year was spent developing our resources alongside an award-winning illustrator, storytellers from Cardiff University, experienced senior school leaders working in both English and Welsh medium schools as well as academics from Cardiff University and UCL. The charity has successfully trialled one Romodel in two schools reaching 100 pupils with teachers believing Romodels have raised aspirations for pupils in their classroom. We have learned and adapted our approach with more emphasis on reflection guides and inclusivity. We are now entering the next stage of development working with a further 10 schools and anticipate reaching over 2,500 pupils in the next year.
Financial Review
Charity’s financial position at the end of the period: £1452 cash surplus
Charity’s reserve policy: Romodels recognises the importance of maintaining adequate reserves to ensure the organization's long-term financial sustainability and to fulfil its charitable objectives effectively. The Board of Trustees has established the following reserves policy to guide prudent financial management:
1. Purpose of Reserves: The primary purpose of the reserves is to provide financial stability and flexibility in the face of unforeseen circumstances or unexpected challenges. Reserves are intended to safeguard the continuity and impact of our charitable activities.
2. Reserve Levels: The charity will maintain reserves at a level deemed sufficient by the Board of Trustees. The determination of appropriate reserve levels will consider the nature of the charity's operations, potential risks, and the need for financial resilience.
3. Assessment and Review: The Board of Trustees will regularly assess and review the reserves policy. This process will include a comprehensive analysis of the charity's financial position, potential risks, and the adequacy of existing reserves. Adjustments to the policy may be made based on the outcomes of these reviews.
4. Use of Reserves: Reserves may be utilized for the following purposes:
-
a. Mitigating financial risks and uncertainties
-
b. Supporting the continuation of essential charitable activities during challenging periods
-
c. Facilitating strategic initiatives and opportunities aligned with the charity’s mission.
5. Legal and regulatory Compliance: The charity will adhere to all applicable legal and regulatory requirements. The charity will comply with reporting obligations related to reserves and ensure that its financial practices align with best governance practices.
