year ended 31 March 2024.

Objectiv¢$ and activities
The objective of the society is to promote the study. appreciation and conservation of church monuments in
the United Kingdom and abroad according to the criteria provided by the ¢harily's constitution.
Publi¢ benefit statement
In managing the charity ancl its activities the Trustees have considered the guidance on public benefit issued
by the Charity Commission The trustees consider that the objectives and activities of the charity and in
accordance with the guidance issued by Ihe Charity Commission.

Achievements and performance
During the year the charity undertook the following events.,
A series on line lectures.
2. A study day In Lei¢esler devoted to monuments of the Wars of the Roses.
3. A visit lo churches in North Leicestershire and South Nottinghamshire fo¢ussiAg on alabaster
monuments in that area.
4. Walking tour of London cemeteries.
The charity continued to publish the widely respected Journal. The Iruslees would like to record their thank5
Peter McGrath of Henry Ling Limited who has assisted with the typesetting and printing The Journal for
many years.
Doctor Ann Adams who has recently stood down after editing the Journal for many years.
The charity continued to act as an advocate for the conservation and protection of church monuments.
Conversion to Charitable Incorporated Oryanisation ("ClO"I
The conversion to CIO status having been approved by mernbers the CIO took over the activities of the
charity with effect from 1 April 2023.
Financial review
The net assets of the predecessor charity were transterred lo the current charity with effect from 1 April 2023.
Income for the year was £20,264 which was a reduction of £4,240 on the previous year. This in tum was
because income for 2023 included £4,115 in relation to the symposium which took place in September 2022.

Expenditure amounted ID £20,364 8 reduction of £10,599. This is due lo the fact that the 2023 figures included
symposium costs of £10,577. Significandy mow than 50Yo of the charity's costs are In respect of the production
and dlslribulion ol ils publications.

with total assets of £73,807, compared with £73,547 the previous year.
Of the tol81 asseis, £58,807 {2023.' £58,547) was represenlgd by the general un￿striCted fund and £15.000
by reslricltsd funds.

The charfty is a Ch8rikble Incorporated Organisalion formed in January 2022.

The conversion lo CIO status having been approved by members, the CIO {ChLJrch Monuments Society, reg
no. 1197588), took over Ihg activities of The Church Monuments Society Ireg no. 279597) with effect from 1
April 2023. The change in the legal strucluro of the charity has had no effect or change lo the aims or
running of th6 charity.

I report to the charity Iruslees on my examination of the a¢¢ounts of the charity for the year 8nded 31 March
2024 which are set out on pages 110 9.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the
requirements of the Charities Act 20111'lhe Acl'l.
I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts cairaed out under section 145 of the Act and in
carrying out my examination I have followed all th$ applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission
under section 14515llbl of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I conlirm that no rr>alerial matters have come lo my attention in
connection with the examination giving me c8use to believe that in any material respect..
accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connects'on with the examination to which
attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the aC￿Unts to be
reached.

Summary of significant accounting polici8S
la) General information and basis of pr9paratlon
The re￿ip1S and payments account are prepared with regard to guidance issued by the Charities
Commission'Receipls and paynients accounts CC16'
As explained in the trustees reF)Ort the conversion lo CIO took effect from 1 April 2023. The accounts
have been prepared under merger accounting. The charity's work including its purposes and
beneficiary class remain unchanged.
The statement of assets and liabilities have been presenl&d as though they had always been part of the
same Irestrucluredl charity. Thè accounts h8ve been drawn up to include the results of the combining
(unincorporated and incorporated) charities for the whole of the reporting period in which incorporation
occurred.
The accounts present comparative amounts on the same basis to Show the aggregated results for the
combining charities for the previous reporting period.
(b} Funds
Unreslricled funds are available for use al the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general
objectives of the charlty and whl¢h have not been designated for other purposes.
Designated funds comprise unrestricted funds that have been sel aside by the Iruslees for particular
purposes. The aim and use of each designated fund is set out in the notes to the financial slalements.
Restricted funds are funds which are lo be used in accordance with specific reslricts.ons imposed by
donors or which have been raised by the charity for particular purposes. The cost of raising and
administering such funds are charged against the specific fund. The aim and use of each restricted fund
is sel out in the notes to the financial statements.
