## Status:

Friends of Coverham Church was registered as a charity for tax purposes in line with Paragraph 1 of Schedule 6 Finance Act 2010 and status took effect from 19 January 2022. For tax purposes, Friends of Coverham Church is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) under the number 1197585.

As of 19 January 2022, under the charity registration number assets of £500 plus £16,690.91cash at bank were the opening balance for the CIO.

Objectives:

For the benefit of the public, to conserve, preserve, repair, and improve the fabric, fittings, furnishings of the historic Holy Trinity Church and churchyard at Coverham, in Coverdale (near Middleham), North Yorkshire, UK.

Reserves Policy:

The revenue reserves, shown as funds on the balance sheet, consist mainly of cash held at bank. These are equivalent to expenditure for more than a full year and are therefore considered to be more than satisfactory.

Risk management:

The charity trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed, particularly those relating to its operations and finances, and are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate the exposure to those risks.

Report to Friends of Coverham Church:

Launching a new website in 2023 has enabled FCC to reach a wider audience and keep in touch with the community. News, services, events, and stories can be shared via the Journals that are being produced on a regular basis.

Made possible by kind donations and support, completed projects include installation of the benches for the church yard, which include a circular bench for around the oak sapling. These were handmade by Tom’s Yard in Herefordshire and were chosen for their maintenance-free and timeless quality.

Old rabbit wire fence has been removed and a new post and rail fence erected defining the graveyard with direct access from the Church via a new enlarged gateway.

Donations are helping with the ongoing maintenance of mature trees, editing of crowded saplings, and planting new specimen oak trees. The two oak trees were planted to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III, following a Trinity Sunday Service. Other works include removal of damaging vegetation, rebuilding fallen walls, replacing top stones, and laying sedum carpet in an area inaccessible to the mower.

Moving forward and listening to local requests, future projects will hopefully include heating to be installed, a compost toilet, upgrading the uplighters and restoration of the lychgate as well as the continuous upkeep of the Church.

Between April 2023 and March 2024 some amazing events have been held at Coverham Church.

Trinity Sunday Service on 4[th] June 2023, The Church was honoured to have in attendance The Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Johanna Ropner, as the King’s representative in this his coronation year. A large gathering of our community from the benefice came together for the service.

July 2023 ‘The stories of the Pen Hill Giant’, written and performed by Carmel Page, went down a storm with local children and adults alike, as did the cakes!

A Summer Concert ‘A Gift of Music’ provided by the Eurythmia Ensemble was held in August, with Eurythmia Ensemble providing a wonderful evening of choral music.

On 7[th] December despite the weather the Church’s first theatrical event was held. A Christmas Carol by ‘This is my Theatre’ was a great success with much support from the community.

This event was followed by a candlelit Christmas carol service on 17[th] December, with the service being widely supported with a wonderful sense of community – starting the Christmas week in Coverdale.

The Church now posts on Instagram and produces regular Journals to provide updates and they are proving to be a wonderful and modern way to spread information to a wider audience celebrating the Church, event, local activities both old and new.
