Achievements and Performance
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
In the first year of operation Time Away has built a strong relationship with donor organisations including Sykes Holidays and Forest Holidays. We have been pledged time in over 100 holiday properties which in turn have been provided to the families we support. During this reporting period we awarded 76 holidays to families. At the time of writing this report we have since provided over 133 holidays. Having surveyed these families after their Time Away we established the following: - 75% said they felt better able to deal with their child’s medical needs in the future following their Time Away. - 95% felt that they had more time for each other when compared to being at home. - 86% of families could not have afforded a holiday if it wasn’t for the break awarded by Time Away - 96% of families managed to do things as a family which they do not have time to do at home. Nearly 600 people directly benefitted from Time Away breaks. The impact on society as a whole is varied and wide ranging. Time Away families who have a break often explain how they come back rested and ‘ready to start again’. Caring for a child with serious medical needs is exhausting and we passionately believe that society needs to provide them with a holistic support package. By looking after a struggling family when they need it most, we provide a sense of being cared for and not being left alone to ‘get on with it’. Time Away aim to make the opportunity to have a break feel enjoyable and similar to any families experience of finding and booking a holiday. We provide a choice of properties rather than just one option in one location. By enabling a family time spent together we help create stronger familiar bonds and strengthen the family unit. This gives the family resilience which, in the long run, enables them, not health and social services, to provide the care their child needs long into the future. |
