Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 The objects of the CIO are to advance
in life and help young people through
the provision of support and activities
which develop their skills, capacities
and capabilities to enable them to
participate in society as independent
and responsible individuals by all
charitable means according to the laws
of England and Wales, including
without limitation by providing young
people with work placements and
professional mentoring opportunities.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or services
identified in the accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
netWork carries out its purposes by
providing motivating, high quality work
experience placements and career/
business speakers to students at state
schools and sixth-form colleges which
have higher than national average
disadvantaged pupils (as measured by
the school’s Pupil Premium). netWork
delivers a free, practical service to
support students regarding their career
and higher education skills and
capabilities and advance their work life
opportunities by seeking out and
setting up work experience and
specialist speakers. Delivering this
service requires netWork to work with
schools and business supporters to
establish and develop relevant work
placements and speakers/ mentors. To
ensure netWork’s purposes are met,
we also advise and support the
students and business hosts and
monitor and evaluate the delivery of
that work experience or speaker
contribution.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 During the last year, whilst considering
the Charity Commission’s guidance on
public beneft, netWork again placed
12 students in a variety of businesses
including advertising, insurance,
journalism and healthcare
communications. As a direct result of
connecting these young people with
companies, we have both improved the
students’ workplace confdence, career
ambition and employment prospects.
These placements also assisted the
organisations’ diverse recruitment
programme.
The feedback we have received from
students continues to demonstrate
that our placements have broadened
their understanding and experience of
the workplace. Here is one quote from
one of our students:

“My 2-week placement has truly and really changed my life. This is because, before this, I had no sense of direction or aspirations when it came to what I wanted to become as a professional. This experience was really eye-opening as It introduced me to different career paths but also allowed me to experience whether corporate life was for me. I must say, those 2 weeks were so fun, that it had only felt like I was there for only a couple of days. Not only was my team very welcoming, but also very helpful in answering any questions I had, even though I thought that it seemed like a stupid question. As a result of this experience, it pushed me to seek out more opportunities like this one, as I enjoyed the corporate sphere of insurance and finance. Therefore this experience was a catalyst to my professional experience so far, and if it wasn't for the help of 'NetWork', I would not be where I am today, with lots of professional experience and Industry knowledge, especially within Insurance, which was a sector that I never Imagined I would take a liking to. Overall, I am grateful for the opportunity that has changed my prospects for the future and my mentality also has shifted - aiming high and always seeking better opportunities. If it wasn't for this experience, I would genuinely not know what my life would have looked like right now.” Here is a selection of shorter feedback comments from our students: - marvellous time, thoroughly productive, super insightful experience - great taster of corporate life, fantastic to experience working in a modern corporate environment - amazing opportunity and would recommend it to others - enjoyed meetings and climate round table, felt like a corporate employee, part of the team - loved the Lloyds visits - enjoyed my research project with ESG - Munich employees were great - underwriting meetings were a little tricky to understand, long and

complicated - opened my eyes to the insurance industry and would love to work within this sector - loved Green Solutions - enjoyed the whole experience - Munich is a brilliant place to work - no criticism really as Munich is brilliant Again, the arranged placements have introduced students to areas of work they have had no prior knowledge of and expanded their horizons as to future career choices. Of the six students we set up advertising placements for, five of them were so inspired by the experience they have applied for jobs in the industry subsequently. Once again, the impact of our placements has been reflected in the feedback from our business hosts/ mentors. One mentor wrote of her student “My colleague and I were fortunate enough to host one of your students in July as part of the work experience programme run by our friends at netWork. I can’t say enough about her, not only did she have a delightful personality, but she showed real engagement and intelligence during her time with us, demonstrating maturity beyond her years. I can honestly say that we were sorry to see her go and she is a credit to her family and her school.” In the last year, we have developed and consolidated the relationships with our schools and colleges. We have continued to work closely with schools on their careers’ programmes and introduced them to areas of industry they are not familiar with through presentations at internal career events. In the past year, we have also set up one to one career introduction sessions between students and criminal and civil law barristers and psychotherapists.

In summary, netWork has continued to create and develop opportunities in the workplace environment for a number of students who are now more confident and able to work through

their career options whilst
simultaneously raising the bar of their
ownexpectations.
