## **1. Introduction from the Managing Director** 

2023 marked a significant year of growth and grounding for Empowerment London. As a charity dedicated to uplifting and increasing the representation of Black and ethnic minorities in the creative industries, we hosted transformative workshops and engaging showcase events across East London. From spoken word and poetry nights to music showcases and creative skill-building workshops, our mission to empower young people aged 18–25 continued to evolve with strong community backing. 

Despite limited resources, we maintained our commitment to inclusivity, skill development, and meaningful representation, delivering high-impact activities with the support of volunteers and a modest government grant.

## **3. Activities and Achievements** 

In 2023, Empowerment London successfully delivered a series of events and initiatives: 

## **a. Workshops** 

We facilitated creative workshops in: 

- **Film-making** 

- **Music curation** 

- **Poetry and performing arts** 

- **Event management** 

These were aimed at equipping young, underrepresented creatives with professional skills and industry insight. 

## **b. Showcase Events** 

We hosted community events including: 

- **Open mic poetry and acapella rap nights** 

- **Showcases featuring emerging Black talent** 

- **Networking parties and celebratory events** 

Each event attracted between 30–70 attendees and included post-showcase networking to foster collaboration. 

## **c. Volunteer Engagement** 

We were supported by 7 volunteers, contributing across event setup, marketing, outreach, and admin tasks.

Empowerment London maintained strong governance in 2023, including:

We are actively working on introducing policies for complaints and harassment in 2024. 

## **5. Future Plans** 

In 2024, we aim to: 

- Launch quarterly showcases with a capacity of 50+ attendees 

- Run free workshops for 120 young people 

- Open up venue hire to generate income and fund future projects 

- Apply for larger grants from Arts Council England and National Lottery 

- Secure sponsorships and partnerships with local universities and businesses
