The Charity had a successful year, teaching 105 children aged 3 to 11. The Children were taught in small groups and provided with meals to improve their learning and focus.
The Charity continued building staff quarters to provide much needed accommodation for teachers, who primarily come from other towns and cannot travel several miles daily.
The Charity completed a larger school building, which includes five additional classrooms, a dining room, staff rooms, a store, and a larger library to accommodate the growing collection of books.
The Charity covered the shipping costs for donated items such as chairs, desks, laptops, books, whiteboards, and clothing. Additionally, the charity funded repairs for existing furniture and established a new library.
The Charity provided staff training in line with requirements of the ministry of Education.
The charity currently provides Internet and communication through subscriptions to mobile network providers in the country. In the future, the charity hopes to offer internet connect that would make it more accessible for pupils and staff.
The charity has utilised consultancy services in Sierra Leone to recruit teachers.
The charity has organised fundraising events, incurring expenses related to these activities.
The charity contributed to the school feeding programme.
In the future, the Charity would like to expand its solar output by installing eight new solar panels and six new batteries, providing enough power to operate laptops and other electrical equipment at the school.
Public Benefit
We confirm the trustees have had regard of the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.
Examples of Public Benefit
The school premises and chairs are used by the villagers when they have events.
They also use the school field for sporting events.
Financial Review:
The Mabomboh Education project had an income of £28,806 in the financial year ended 31[st] August 2023. The income was generated from donations from the Chislehurst Methodist Church, New Eltham Methodist Church, Private individuals. and fund-raising events organised by the project.
The charity received its largest donations form Chislehurst Methodist Church, which is restricted to paying for staff costs. The funding amounts to £9,000 per year for three years. However, the first year’s fund was received late, along the second year’s funds, in the current financial year.
The charity used its funds to pay staff cost, run the school and complete the school building and staff quarters during the year.
The charity will continue to need funds to complete additional quarters for staff, provide accessible water facilities at the school, and cover ongoing running costs.
Reserves
The reserves policy from FY23/24 is for the Charity to hold a sum equivalent to six months average expenditure. It is necessary to maintain sufficient working capital to meet the the monthly salary payments and related costs of running a nursery and primary school.
Declaration
The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above
