whole.|Para 1.20|**Water Quality Monitoring of the River Thames**
A citizen science study to measure the quantity
of 2 faecal bacteria pollution known to be
harmful to human health, namely E. Coli and
Intestinal Enterococci.
Volunteers were trained in the technique of
how to collect water samples using a specially
designed aseptic protocol using a telescopic
pole attached to a stainless-steel collecting
vessel to fill sterilised bottles. Samples were
taken every week between May and
September from 4 different locations along the
Thames in the Goring Gap and were analysed
by a registered microbiology laboratory. The
results were recorded and statistically
analysed, along with weather and river
conditions, to form conclusions as to how to
identify sources of the pollution and what
needs to be done to reduce the problem. A

**Invasive Species Control**
Several teams of volunteers were trained and
equipped to identify and remove Britain’s most
invasive, non-native plant species, Himalayan
balsam.
**Running a Repair Cafe service**
A GGEO volunteer initiated this in April 2023
and it continues to run successfully, having
now been fully adopted by the charity. This is a
worthwhile free and sustainable service for the
benefit of the community and reduced carbon
emissions at a meaningful level.

**Increasing Awareness of GGEO and**
**Environmental Issues**| A number of environmental articles were written and published by GGEO in the Goring Gap News to increase awareness of the organisation and local environmental issues and build up educational content about these. **Representing GGEO in Parish assemblies and other community meetings** GGEO trustees attended all the main meetings in Goring & Streatley with an exhibition stand where there was an opportunity to promote awareness of the charity and the work and projects it undertakes. **Activities in Environmental Training Workshops** with Thames21, Wild Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley Environmental Records Centre’s Spring and Autumn Conferences. **Development of the GGEO charity and its website** During the year several candidates were interviewed to increase the number and strength of GGEO trustees and work continued to improve its website. **Meetings with other environmental organisations** GGEO met with members of other environmental and sustainability groups throughout the year to discuss possible collaborations in projects of mutual interest to extend the reach of our activities. ## **Additional information (optional)** You may choose to include further statements where relevant about: Achievements against objectives set Para 1.41 Performance of fundraising activities against objectives set Para 1.41 Investment performance against objectives Para 1.41 Other ## **Financial Review** |**Financial Review**||| |---|---|---| |Review of the charity’s
