Friends of Deddington Church
Charitable Incorporated Organisation
Charity registration number 1197482
Annual Report 31 December 2025
Friends of Deddington Church was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in January 2022. It is the successor to an informal unregistered organisation which supported the church for many years.
The charity is a secular organisation whose sole purpose is to raise funds to assist in the preservation and maintenance of the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul (in the Diocese of Oxford), a historic Grade II* building, and its grounds, which have stood at the heart of the parish for nearly 800 years.
The church provides the largest covered floor space available in the community. Apart from its role as an Anglican church, almost 50 different secular activities have been undertaken in the church in recent years, many of them multiple times, from monthly markets to concerts, plays, exhibitions, lectures and school activities, to highlight just a few.
During the financial year, we raised £8,962 through a combination of lump sums, monthly subscriptions and Gift Aid recoveries, resulting in a year-end balance on account of £22,758 after modest expenses and our contributions to the ongoing maintenance and repairs of the church and its grounds.
This past year we donated over £1,724 to the cost of managing the trees in the adjoining graveyard, some of which directly impact the church. In total, over the past four years we have donated £46,626 to the parochial church council for the specific purposes of preservation and maintenance of the church and its grounds.
Looking forward, we are in discussion with the church wardens regarding contributions towards the urgent renovation of the ancient heating system and other maintenance and repairs.
Two trustees left the board in 2025 at the end of their three-year terms. The year-end trustees are Lord Green of Deddington, Lesley Milroy, Catherine Desmond, Jill Cheeseman, Colin Lambert and Caroline Condon.
