Friends of Deddington Church
Charitable Incorporated Organisation
Charity registration number 1197482
Annual Report 31 December 2023
Friends of Deddington Church was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on 13 January 2022. It is the successor to an informal unregistered organisation which supported the church for many years.
The charity is a secular organisation whose sole purpose is to raise funds to assist in the preservation and maintenance of the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul (in the Diocese of Oxford), a historic Grade II* building, and its grounds, which have stood at the heart of the parish for nearly 800 years.
The church provides the largest covered floor space available in the community. Apart from its role as an Anglican church, almost 50 different secular activities have been undertaken in the church in recent years, many of them multiple times, from monthly markets to concerts, plays, exhibitions, lectures and school activities, to highlight just a few.
During the financial year, we raised £5,841 mainly through monthly subscriptions and Gift Aid recoveries, resulting in a year-end balance on account of just over £25,000 after our contributions during the year to the ongoing maintenance and repairs of the church.
In particular, having previously confirmed to the church wardens that the charity would contribute most of the cost of the repair of the South porch, we contributed over £26,500 this financial year to the works which were completed and now provide an appropriate entrance to church. We are now in discussion with the church wardens regarding contributions towards repairs recommended in the Quinquenial report which is being considered by the Parochial Church Council.
There have been no changes in the charity trustees this year. They are Lord Green of Deddington, Lesley Milroy and Catherine Desmond, who were the first trustees, along with Jill Cheeseman, Jennifer Childs, David Field, Colin Lambert and Caroline Condon.
