## **Friends of Deddington Church**

Charitable Incorporated Organisation Charity registration number 1197482

## **Annual Report 31 December 2022**

Friends of Deddington Church was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on 13 January 2022. It is the successor to an informal unregistered organisation which supported the church for many years.

The charity is a secular organisation whose sole purpose is to raise funds to assist in the preservation and maintenance of the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul (in the Diocese of Oxford), a historic Grade II* building, and its grounds, which have stood at the heart of the parish for nearly 800 years.

The church provides the largest covered floor space available in the community. Apart from its role as an Anglican church, almost 50 different secular activities have been undertaken in the church in recent years, many of them multiple times, from monthly markets to concerts, plays, exhibitions, lectures and school activities, to highlight just a few.

This first reporting period was taken up with organising the charity, recruitment of additional trustees from the local community and the launch of an inaugural fundraising campaign which brought in over £46,000 in donations and gift aid recoveries as well as promises, via annual standing order, of substantially more. At the date of this report, the charity has agreed to provide £25,000 for the repair of the South porch and is considering a further sum for repairs to the tower and the vestry chimney stack.

First charity trustees, Lord Green of Deddington, Lesley Milroy and Catherine Desmond, were joined during the year by Jill Cheeseman, Jennifer Childs, David Field, Colin Lambert, David Rogers (since resigned) and Caroline Condon. All were recruited through personal contacts.
