**To promote the understanding and practice of Soto Zen Buddhism with particular emphasis on the teaching of the late Taisen Deshimaru Roshi for the public benefit.**

**The charity supports and co-ordinates the activities of approximately 9 local groups in the UK(Bradford, Brighton, Bristol, Leeds, London x2, Manchester, Norwich, Wells-next-thesea) plus 2 correspondent groups.** 

**It also plans and organises sesshins (Zen retreats) and similar events which are open to the public.** 

**The charity maintains a website by which members of the public may access information about local groups, forthcoming events, announcements and articles about Zen and Buddhism.** 

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** 

**Publishes a Zen News with news and articles about Zen and the UK sangha which are available to members and the wider public through local groups. Develops and maintains links with outside organisations such as the Association Zen Internationale and the European Sotoshu Office.** 

**Invites certified teachers from the Soto school to lead and direct sesshins in the UK.** 

**Makes available for sale books by Master Deshimaru and others, zafus, incense and other artefacts which may be helpful for the study of Zen Buddhism.** 

**The charity carries out its aims and objectives with regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.**

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

**3 sesshins (Zen retreats) were held during the year in: Crosby Hall (Liverpool) and Sheringham (Norfolk) x2. I Kesa sewing sesshin was also organised at Shawbottom Farm (near Leek, Staffs) One of the sesshins held at Sheringham was led by an elder of the UK sangha.** 

**Further special events such as zen days, weekends, kesa sewing practice and talks have been organised by local groups. This is in addition to the regular daily zazen practice (zen meditation) organised by local groups.** 

**IZAUK also maintains a Bursary Fund to supplement the sesshin fees of those who have low or no income.** 

**The charity produces and circulates to members a Zen newsletter 3 or 4 times per year.**

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended **31/12/2024** . **Responsibilities and** As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the **basis of report** accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). 

I report in respect of my examination of  the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

**Independent** I have completed my examination.  I confirm that no material matters have **examiner's statement** come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect: 

- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or 

- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or 

- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
