## Brentwood Museum Society - AGM 2024 - Treasurer's Report for 2023

As you can see from the balance sheet, the Brentwood Museum Society had an overspend of £3,000 last year, this was due to:

- 1) E-on increasing their charges in 2022 but didn’t change the Direct Debit which meant that we owed over £1,000 back-payment, as well as the prices going up in general,

- 2) We spent money on having our Web Site rebuilt to make it easier to maintain,

- 3) The Chapel roof needed some repairs in December to make it watertight again,

- 4) The cost of Speakers for the Monthly Talks.

To help counter the expenses we did receive a donation from the Council to help put up a display in the Baytree Centre.

However, the finances are still in a healthy financial position because of Government Grants to compensate for COVID losses, but this won’t last forever.

The Museum’s online presence has been improving and we have spent money to have a new web site created, which went live during 2023.

This online presence is certainly paying off as visitor numbers have increased significantly, as seen in the extra income. Thanks must go to our “youngster”, Natalie for this.

Over £29,000 was put into a fixed-rate Bond and so hopefully the interest will be better this year.

Sadly, Membership is slowly falling year on year. We need to make a concerted effort to increase Membership since Membership Fees are our major source of income.

It must be stressed that the Museum WILL NOT survive without increasing its Membership. I also propose to increase the Membership Fee to £24.00 from 1[st] January 2025 partly to counter the cost of Speakers.

Thanks again to Roger Griffiths, who has checked and fully approved the “2023” accounts. Roger has agree to examine the “2024” accounts at least.

Invitations to this year’s Summer Open Evening on Friday 5[th] July are going out, we hope that everyone will be able to attend.

Thank you, Martin Hamilton
