Brentwood Museum Society - AGM 2023 - Treasurer's Report for 2022

As you can see from the balance sheet, the Brentwood Museum Society is still in a healthy financial position because of Government Grants to compensate for COVID losses.

Fortunately, I have managed to find a temporary examiner, Roger Griffiths, who has checked and fully approved the “2022” accounts. Roger has also agreed to examine “2023” accounts at least.

As would be expected, expenses have gone up this year, as can be seen on the balance sheet, although they look worse because of a much quieter than usual 2021.

We have also bought equipment for the new exhibits and improved the lighting of exhibits.

The Museum’s online presence has been improving and we have spent money to have a new web site created, which went live a couple of months ago.

This online presence is certainly paying off as visitor numbers have increased significantly, as seen in the extra income. Thanks must go to our “youngster”, Natalie for this.

The interest on our £15,000 Bond was pitifully low. For 2023 I have now moved it into a 2.99% interest rate Bond, along with some of the grant money.

Unfortunately, we finished the year spending just over £1,000 more than we took in, but that is because we are spending the previous grants to improve the museum.

As Treasurer, I have yet to close down the previous charity and contact all organisations that give us special rates because we are a Charity, including renewing GiftAid, I hope to do that by the end of next year.

Sadly, Amazon have decided to stop their “Smile” donation scheme, and so I have registered with the “Give as you Live” scheme, but I haven’t had a chance to advertise it yet.

Thank you, Martin Hamilton
