# Cardiovascular Community engagement event SDDA collaboration with Nishkam May 23 ## Overview - Footfall at the healthcare centre was 489 people on the day - 299 people underwent physical health checks (a combination of height, weight, blood pressure, blood sugar and heart rhythm screening tests) - 28 people attended the eye care advisory service - 26 people attended the living kidney donation talk - 133 males (44%) - Average age 56 years - Ethnicity: 9 Afro-Caribbean (3%), 259 Asian (87%), 21 Caucasian (7%), 10 Ethnicity unknown (3%) - 3 emergency ambulances called out ## Medical Emergencies - **3 Emergency Ambulances Called:** - - 1 for a case a Diabetic Ketoacidosis - - 1 for fast AF - - 1 for BP 190/119mmHg (not previously diagnosed with htn) - **Medical Urgencies Requiring GP Intervention Within the Next Few Days** - - 4 cases of abnormal heart rhythm (3 new diagnoses AF, 1 tachycardia with ectopics requiring evaluation by GP). - - 4 people BP of >180/90mmHg - - 5 people had blood sugar >20mmol yet were not known to be diabetics. - - A hand-written note was given to all of these individuals, which they could then take to their GP’s highlighting - finding from the health checks and suggesting the need for urgent medical review. ## BMI Data - 99 people – no BMI documented - 200 people had BMI documented. Of these 3 people were excluded from analysis because of suspected erroneous data entries (BMI of 9, 88 and 89) - Of the remaining 197 people: - - 1 person was underweight - - 47 people = healthy weight - - 90 people = overweight - - 59 people = obese [45 people obesity class 1 (BMI ≥30 but <35); 12 people obesity class 2 (BMI ≥35 but <40); 2 people obesity class 3 (BMI ≥40) - Median BMI 27 - Mean BMI 28 ## BP Data - 279 BP checks but 3 excluded from analysis due to erroneous data entries - 178 people with normal BP - 72 people with SBP >140 and ≤159 mmHg - 21 people with SBP >160 and ≤179 mmHg - 5 people with SBP ≥180 mmHg - 2 people with SBP <100mHg - Comments for people with BP >180mmHg - - 1 person HAS APPT BOOKED AT GP DAILY MONITORING SHEET PROVIDED - - 3 person new diagnosis suspected htn (186/90; 192/91; 194/99); advised to see GP urgently and given letter of advice from NHT voulnteers - - 1 person sent to A&E (190/119) - Average BP (data is for 276 people; 3 people excluded from analysis because of suspected erroneous data) - - Mean SBP 134 Mean DBP 80 - - Median SBP 132 Median DBP 80 - Of those people with SBP ≥ 160mmHg - - 13 known hypertension (70m, 73f, 67m, 80f, 64f, 52f, 67f, 60m, 71f, 73f, 56f, 57m, 69m) - - 8 not known hypertension (68m, 44f, 50m, 68m, 70f, 68f, 80f, 52f, 69m) - Of those people with a diastolic of ≥ 100mmHg and SBP <160mmHg - - 2 known hypertension (66f, 68m) (BMI 34, BMI 42) - ## Blood Glucose Data - 200 blood glucose checks - 1 person excluded from analysis due to erroneous results (CBG 78) - 6 people with CBG >20mmHg - Nobody with hypoglycaemia (blood sugar <4) ## Heart Rhythm Checks - 38 people had heart rhythm checks - 31 people had a normal sinus rhythm on KardiaKor monitoring - 4 people had a tachycardia - 3 cases of AF - 1[st] person advised to see GP - 2[nd] person 999 called - 3[rd] person new diagnosis AF - 1 – irregular pulse, suspect ectopics, advised to see GP ||**Charity Name**
