Objectives of the Foundation

To relieve financial hardship, sickness and poor health amongst the community, particularly the elderly and disadvantaged people in the Clipstone Parish and surrounding areas, which they could not otherwise afford through lack of means by providing:

Grants, goods and services to individuals in need and/or charities, or other organisations working to improve the standard of life, prevent or relieve poverty, and improve mental well-being

To help young people within the Clipstone Parish and surround areas , especially but not exclusively through leisure time activities, so as to develop their capabilities that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society through:

(a) The provision of grants to support recreational and leisure time activities provided in the interest of social welfare, designed to improve their conditions of life

(b) Providing grants to support activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals (c) To relieve the poverty of young people by the provision of grants to enable them to participate in healthy recreational and educational activities that they could not otherwise afford

Provide financial support to young people within the parish of Clipstone and surrounding community areas, who demonstrate exceptional commitment and/or ability in academic, sport, or the performing arts but may be held back by their financial situation from pursuing their goals

Year In Summary

£127,000 raised 119 grants approved

£64,000 in grants pledged

We were also very proud to have opened our pre-loved shop in 2022. This gives opportunities for disadvantaged young adults to learn retail skills, gives the local community good quality value items in what are unprecedented hard times and also helps to raise money for the foundation to be able to support more people in line with our objectives

Chairmans Report

I am honoured to be able to report on the first year of the Lashes Foundation.

In July 2021, Emma and Lee Wilson devastatingly lost Evie aged 13. Evie brightened up any room she walked into with her beautiful smile, giggle and witty sense of humour. She was a special individual who always put others above herself. The Lashes Foundation was set up to keep Evie's legacy alive, carry on her kindness and help others in the local community – just like she did.

The first year has also been extremely busy setting up all of the systems and governance that is required as a registered charity

Being able to help so many people in the community has been really satisfying. Hearing the feedback from people who the grants have made such a difference to, has been really heart warming to hear. The grant making process is not easy and I want to thank the trustees for there support in ensuring all cases are reviewed, governed and fair.,

Out of such sadness, the Lashes foundation in its first year as a registered charity, has flourished through the amazing support of the local community which has meant the foundation. has supported the local people with 119 grants, helping individuals, groups and organisations. In it's first year, the foundation has approved grants totalling £64,000. We were able to approve the first 100 grants in 320 days

I want to express my thanks to all of the amazing trustees , volunteers and ambassadors. Without your help, drive and dedication we could not have achieved what we have this year.,

We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and support of everyone who has helped us in our first year. Whether this be buying a raffle ticket, attending one of our sold out events, donating goods for our Lashes HQ, Major Donors, monthly donors, volunteering, running a fund raiser or just believing and supporting what we are trying to do.

To top our first year off, we were also truly honoured to have been recognised as the charity of the year at the annual business Mansfield & Ashfield 2020 business awards

With over £127,000 raised in the first year we cannot thank you all enough..

Lashes Foundation was set up in memory of Evie Wilson who suddenly passed ay at the age of 13 in 2021. Lashes aims to support local people in need of support just like Evie did

Thank you again for everyone that has supported us, believed in what the foundation are trying to achieve and we are looking forward to supporting as many people in the local community in 2023

Trustees Update

What a year it has been for Lashes Foundation and we are all so privileged to be a part of it as trustees. We all bring different skills to the team and it is great working together on a daily basis to support others in the community

The support from everyone has been nothing short of magnificent ! Plus all of the other numerous events that have taken place in our first year,. The support has been pretty overwhelming !

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the various schemes like the CO-OP scheme, Easy Fundraising, Amazon Smile and everyone that nominates us as their work charity and to all or monthly donors and major donors. You all make a huge difference to us.

The Lashes HQ outlet is going from strength to strength and it is great to see the young adults develop as a result of the work experience and also local residents being able to grab a bargain.

In particular, the Evie day was not only a fund raising event, but one where we wanted to bring all of the community together to support each other including other local charities and local businesses. We are really pleased we were able to help lift the community spirit as well as raising funds

With all of the support on the fundraising, this has meant we have been able to support so many people in the local community which for us is what the Charity is all about and keeping Evie's legacy alive. We have many more ideas and things planned in the second year for the Lashes Foundation to keep on supporting local people and groups

We have also tried to support small businesses through our Small Business Sunday on our social media as well

Thank you to everyone that has purchased our merchandise. It has helped raise funds but also raised awareness for what we are trying to do., Seeing your pictures of beach towels and water bottles around the world has been fantastic !

Grants

The foundation is a grant making charity and has a grant process and policy in place, Each grant request is reviewed by all trustees as part of the agreed governance process

In the first year as a registered charity, the foundation received 134 grants in total. Of these grants 119 were approved by the trustees with a total of £64,000 being granted (pledged)

Each grant that we receive are very individual and we have supported a very wide range of causes in our first year in line with our objectives . To name a few of the types of grants we have supported:

Women fleeing domestic abuse where we have helped with new furnishings.

We have helped improve life for local disabled children and adults with vital equipment.

We’ve donated to local food banks

We have provided mental health support for urgent cases and helped children who have suffered bullying, helping give back some of their confidence.

We’ve installed defibrillators and supported local youth sports teams and youth organisations who play a vital role in our children’s development and mental health.

Supporting people with their mental health has been a regular theme this year. We are thankful for our panel of counsellors who provide priority and discounted support to Lashes. We also ran a "You to be You" campaign that was over subscribed within a few hours but we know it has made a difference to many local people

We are very transparent as a charity about what types of causes we support and update our supporters regularly through our social media and website on how we help others

On the following page are just some of the examples of the grants we have given and the differences it has made to local people's lives.

When you have a serious illness and things just go wrong for you..

EJW If having a very serious illness that has affected you, your family, your finances and kept you off work is not bad enough.... then the heating goes in the house !

Lashes has been able to help someone get their heating back up and running and one thing off the family's mind

When you just want your friend who is suffering to feel pampered "I am so proud of how my friend is dealing with the news of terminal cancer and the effects of treatment. It's so tough for her but she is fighting it as best as she can for her very young family"

Thank you so much for offering a respite and giving my friend time at a spa to pamper herself and a day to remember

Working in partnership with the Rope

Project

The Rope Project do some incredible work supporting men, women and children who have fled domestic abuse and those who have been sleeping rough providing essential household items and getting them the right support. Lashes has given a grant to ensure the Rope Project have enough supplies to help people in need at very short notice

Helping others though tough times

How tough is this ? Losing your Husband unexpectedly in an accident then a few weeks later your young son losing his battle with a rare form of cancer...

Thats something none of us want to ever happen to us

Lashes have been able able to provide a short break for Sammy and Leah to recharge to take on the future.

Supporting people with a meal in unprecedented hard times

"We want to say a huge thank you to the Lashes foundation who have donated so we can purchase hampers for the people in need over Christmas. The funding will help purchase a pallet of food enabling lots of local families who are struggling. Its not the first time Lashes have helped the us and we are incredibly grateful" Mansfield Arena Church Foodbank"

When you have a severely disabled son..even bath-time can be very hard..

Lashes Foundation has been able to provide a specialised bath seat to be able to make bath time much more comfortable, enjoyable and easier for everyone. It can also be used on holidays as well to make those times more special

Support the development of local childen ..

We have sponsored equipment for the Clipstone Colts teams and other groups who run local sports teams in the local community,. Sport is so crucial for the mental well being and development of children and we were delighted to be able to help the great work the club do

Bringing cheer to the youth club ..

The Local youth club is a special and important place for many local children's development and mental health well being. We were delighted to be able to provide grants for the Christmas party and also purchase the volunteer uniforms.

Two Life saving Defibrillators in the community

We have helped contribute towards two defibrillators in the local community - Eastfield Close in Clipstone and Kingsway Hall in Forest Town

"I cried when i opened your email" A young lady is the carer for her mum who and suffers after major spinal surgery. Her mum totally relied on her.

She is now going to university and was really worried about her mum when she had to leave her. Lashes was able to support the funding of a mobility scooter so the mum could be more mobile and also the young lady is able to focus on the next chapter of her life knowing her mum has better support.

Thank you...

"We wanted to pass on our gratitude and recognition of the wonderful support you are offering young people and families within our community.

We are aware that you recently supported a family we work with in offering a resource that was not attainable through NHS or Social Care funding. This made a significant difference for them and their journey

Singing to her own tune..

It's tough when life is challenging and bullies make life really hard for you. The best way to prove them wrong and build back your confidence is to believe in yourself.

Lashes are delighted to be able to support a young talented girl to get her confidence back, achieve her ambition and help record her own song..She will be now singing to her own tune and ignoring the others ! Go girl...

Evie helping with a special bucket list

Some of us have bucket lists... but for some people like a local young lady, its means a whole lot more when due to a terminal illness you don't have long to complete it...

Lashes has been able to help someone in a heartbreaking situation create memories with a helicopter ride and also to see a London West End theatre production...

You to be You - Mental Health

Support.

We know everyone goes through tough times. But we also know not everyone asks for help. when they need it. Lashes wants to "support you to be you". Its good to talk, share and get the right support

We offered 10 people on a confidential basis, access to 6 sessions of professional help free of charges but due to the demand we agreed 20 places in total which were all taken

Evie giving hope to a young child

With the support of Lashes, we can now get the professional support our young son needs to help him deal with severe trauma. We hope this will help get our little boy back smiling again

accessible to all

When your child takes up a new sport it can be very expensive for parents. In some cases this can actually mean the child does not take part in recreational activities. Clipstone Cricket Club are setting up a new U11 hard ball team this year. We have provided a grant for them to buy some sets of playing kits so every child can take part and not feel like they are not part of the team. They can still participate and have a go even if they have not got the right kit to start off.

Evie teaming up with Elsie..

Elsie was 18 months old and diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type II.

SMA is a muscle wasting condition and means Elsie will never walk.

Elsie will need a specialised wheelchair as she now gets older and the Lashes Foundation have helped contribute towards the fund-raising so Elsie can be supported as best as possible

Evie making life more comfortable and safer for a young child

We have had the news that my child now needs ongoing oxygen to help with a complex medical condition. With the support of Lashes, I can now purchase a safety bed for my young boy so we can manage his oxygen at night safely and comfortably and also take out the initial worry of paying for the additional electricity expenses that are required

Events & Fundraising

During our first year, we have run some very successful events some of which are highlighted below. Every event has been a sell out and we thank everyone for the support.! Lots of events and activities have also arranged by our Lashes followers. Charity golf events, dream team leagues, raffles, triathlons, cake sale days, employee nominated grants from their company to name a few ! Thank you so much !

Lashes HQ

In October 2022. we opened Lashes HQ, Our "pre loved" shop in Forest Town. We are indebted to the support from the trustees, volunteers, ambassadors

Everyone's energy, drive and sheer enthusiasm has made the shop a real success in such a short space of time

We also work in partnership with local schools and students with special education needs. The experience we give in the shop facilitates the development of behavioural, emotional social skills alongside retail and work experience (Customer service skills, stock management). Seeing the confidence grow of the young adults who volunteer for us is really rewarding

The support for donating goods and also people purchasing items has been absolutely fantastic. Thank you

"Lashes HQ helps us achieve three objectives"

Financial & Governance Review

Methods of appointment or election of Trustees

Review of activities

These accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis in accordance with the Charities Act 2011, and as adopted by trustees.

Fund Accounting- Unrestricted Funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objects at the discretion of the trustees. Restricted funds arise when the use of a donation or legacy is stipulated by the donor or funds are raised for a specific purpose. There are no restricted funds received in this financial year.

Going concern

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees: There must be at least 3 trustees, who hold at least 2 meetings each year with one meeting being of physical presence rather than via digital means. In appointing trustees there must be due regard to the skills required to administer the charity effectively. New trustees, who must be over 18 years of age, must be appointed by a quorate Special Meeting (any 2 trustees) which requires 21 days’ notice. No changes to the trustees appointed in 2021 have been made at the date of signing this report.

The management of the Charity is the responsibility of the Trustees who are elected and co-opted under the terms of the Trust deed. No changes have been made since the original trust deed was signed

Strategies for achieving objectives

After making appropriate enquires, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the Charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason, they continue to adopt the going concern basis in preparing the financial statements.

To raise funds through fund-raising activities, donations, donors and grants and after expenses to make charitable donations in accordance with the trust deed and grant making policy

Activities undertaken to achieve objectives

. Financial risk management objectives and policies

Risk management: The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error. All payments require two trustees to authorise and no trustee can commit the Trust financially on their own. Grant approvals are in line with the grant making policy which requires a majority vote. The majority of financial transactions are through the Lloyds bank account. Where cash is received controls are in place to ensure that the amounts are verified and banked. No grants are made in cash. The trustees have judged that the controls currently in place are sufficient for the operation of the trust.

Keep appropriate audited records of all grants made in line with the grant making policy and in line with the charitable objectives, including properly recorded meetings of the Trustees, receive nominations and agree such local causes which, at the Trustees discretion, meet the objectives of the Trust and make cash or gift donations to these causes.

Reserves policy

The Trustees have recently reviewed the Reserves Policy and have agreed a minimum reserves value of £15,000 (reducing basis) to cover liabilities for the remaining term of the Lashes HQ lease

Financial Notes

Public Benefit

The trustees have reviewed the outcomes, achievement of the objectives and activities for the year to ensure they remain focused and continue to deliver benefits to the public.

The trustees are satisfied that the charity's activities provide a wide public benefit, they have read the Charity Commissions guidance and apply public benefit principles to all decision making.

The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the period ended 31 December 2022. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with accounting policies as set out by charity law and are based on a receipts and payments format adopted by the trustees. The report includes the information given on the reference and administration page

Review of the activities and achievements of the objectives

The foundation is a grant making charity and has a grant process and policy in place,

Each grant request is reviewed by all trustees as part of the governance process.

In the first year as a registered charity, the foundation received 134 grant requests in total. Of these grants 119 were approved by the trustees with a total of £64K being pledged and just over £41k of these grants expensed by 31 December 2022.

Financial Accounts

Financial Review

This is the first financial year of the Foundation and these accounts cover the whole period from registration of the charitable trust deed in November 2021 and the deposit of the funds held by the founding trustees in December 2021 through to 31 December 2022. In December 2021 £38k was introduced to the foundation from pre-registration fund raising.

During the year, a further £57k was received in donations and £35k in surpluses from events and merchandise sales. General overhead costs were £11.5k of which are detailed in the financial statements below.

From this total, £118k, £41k of pledged grants had been distributed and £77k remained in the bank account to be carried forward to future years.

The trustees have formulated a Reserves Policy: In order to meet future liabilities in full a minimum of £15k will be held and not distributed. This is to ensure that there are always sufficient funds to pay the Lashes HQ lease on the term agreed

The Foundation completed the year in a very strong financial position having £62k in surplus funds after taking into account the minimum reserves level. Currently, the trustees have decided to maintain all surpluses on the current account at Lloyds bank, but will review Reserves and Investment policies on an annual basis.

The Receipts and Payments Accounts and the Statement of Assets and Liabilities, page 8, together with the additional notes below provide full details of the financial transactions.

The trustees declare that they have approved the Trustees’ Report above. Signed on behalf of the charity’s trustees: Andy Sumner
