## **Thieves Lane Community Garden annual report 1[st] April 2023 – 31[st] March 2024**

– Summary of activities from April 2023 March 2024:

This year saw some big changes to the community garden, including replacing the old and damaged fencing, building and installing four raised beds that could be accessible for wheelchair users, and adding a central path that could be used by wheelchairs. Trustees were keen to ensure that the garden would be a space that everyone could use and enjoy, and so made sure that the raised beds were near the entrance and readily accessible.

We were delighted to have regular volunteers offer to help with some of the work outlined above. We experimented with regular volunteer days, and after trying different times and different days, we settled on a regular monthly Saturday morning slot. Outside of this, volunteers were warmly encouraged to visit the garden at any time to either carry out some gardening or simply enjoy the space.

Along with raised beds and paths, we were pleased to be able to have some seating, which we made from some old wooden slats, and placed in the mid section of the garden so people could sit and enjoy whilst being set a bit further back from the road.

Unfortunately, the garden had quite a lot of bindweed, which readily took hold even despite the efforts of volunteers and trustees. We did our best to stay on top of this, but it has been an ongoing battle!
