CHURCHILL CRICKET CLUB CIO
Report of the Trustees for the period 31 December 2021 to 30 September 2022
The trustees present their report and financial statements of the charity for the period from 31 December 2021 to 30 September 2022. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in the notes to the accounts and comply with the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Objectives and Activities
The objects of the CIO are the advancement of amateur sport by promoting the community participation in healthy recreation, for the benefit of the residents of Churchill, Somerset and the surrounding area, by (A) the provision of facilities for playing cricket;(B) encouraging and developing where possible the cricketing skills and knowledge of senior and junior members.
Achievements and Performance
All the charity's trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit when exercising their powers and duties.
This season the club ran training sessions for junior members at Under 7,9 and 11 year groups. These sessions were led by qualified cricket coaches, and met on one evening during the week and on Sunday mornings from April to the end of the school term in July. The under 11 year group played matches against other clubs in Somerset on Sunday mornings and for many of the players this was their first introduction to competitive cricket. The juniors showed great enthusiasm in these matches and in all over 60 youngsters ( both boys and girls) took part. Often there were more than 100 mums and dads watching and helping in the organisation of these games.
At the end of the season there was an awards evening at which every child was given a medal and exceptional performers were also awarded trophies.
The charity has agreed to pay for training courses provided by Somerset Cricket Foundation over the winter months so that next year we will have more qualified coaches training the juniors.
The club also started a women's team during 2022 which practiced and trained during the week throughout the summer. The trustees expect this group to increase in numbers and play some competitive cricket during 2023.
The first and second X1's continued to do well. The first team were promoted for the second year running and will play in division 3 of the Monmouth Scientific Cricket League in 2023 and the second team will play in division 6.
Looking forward it is the trustees aim to increase the membership of the club through expanding the juniors and ladies sections and improving the facitities at the club. To this end the club signed a new 30 year lease on the ground in September 2022 which the trustees anticipate will secure the future of cricket in Churchill and allow access to new sources of funds.

Restricted funds are funds which are to be used in accordance with the specific restrictions imposed by the donor or trust deed. Unrestricted funds comprise those funds which the trustees are free to use for any purpose in the furtherance of charitable objectives.
Recognition of income

Donations and grants are recognised when the charity has been notified in writing of both the amount and settlement date. In the event that a donation or grant is subject to conditions that require a level of performance before the charity is entitled to the funds the income is deferred and not recognised until either those conditions are fully met, or the fulfilment of those conditions is wholly within the control of the charity and it is probable that these conditions will be fulfilled in the reporting period.
Recognition of expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that settlement will be required, and the amount of the obligation can be reliably measured.
Creditors
Liabilities and provisions are recognised as a result of an obligation to transfer economic benefits to a third party. Both are recognised once there is a present obligation at the reporting date as a result of a past event, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefit in the form of cash will be required in settlement and the amount of settlement can be estimated reliably.
