## **Trustee Report for Orphan Appeal** 

## **Period Covered: 28 February 2023** 

## **1. Introduction** 

The trustees of Orphan Appeal  are pleased to present their annual report together with the financial statements for the year ended 28 February 2023.  The charity is dedicated to supporting orphans abroad by providing grants to UK-registered charities operating in Gaza, Syria, Yemen, Kashmir, Algeria, and Bangladesh. This report outlines our activities, achievements, and financial performance for the year. 

## **2. Objectives and Activities** 

The primary objective of Orphan Appeal is to improve the lives of orphans by providing financial support to partner charities in the specified regions. Our activities are focused on: 

1. **Grant-Making** : Allocating funds to UK-registered charities that sponsor orphans abroad. 

2. **Fundraising** : Hosting events and campaigns to raise awareness and funds. 

3. **Community Engagement** : Leveraging mosques, messaging platforms, and social media to reach and engage with our supporters. 

## **3. Achievements and Performance** 

## **3.1 Grant-Making Activities** 

During the reporting period, Orphan Appeal provided grants to the following UKregistered charities to support orphan sponsorship programs in various regions: 

- **Gaza** : £2,002 granted to One Nation 

- **Syria** : £2,462 granted to One Nation 

- **Yemen** : £2,732 granted to One Nation 

- **Azad Kashmir** : £1,002 granted to One Nation 

- **Bangladesh** : £1,002 granted to One Nation 

- **Most Needy** : £2,265 granted to One Nation 

- **Mosque Uganda Project** : £4,959 granted to One Nation 

- **Zakat** : £805 granted to One Nation 

- **Zakat on Wealth:** £850 granted to One Nation

- **Water Wells:** £1,200 granted to One Nation 

These grants have facilitated educational, nutritional, and healthcare support for orphans and poor people in these regions, significantly improving their quality of life. 

## **3.2 Fundraising Activities** 

Our fundraising efforts were concentrated in the month of Ramadan, a time of increased charitable giving in the Muslim community. Key activities included: 

- **Events at Mosques** : We organized multiple fundraising events at local mosques, which were well-attended and generated significant donations. 

- **Social Media Campaigns** : We utilized platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to run targeted campaigns, raising awareness and encouraging donations. 

- **Messaging Platforms** : We engaged with our supporters via WhatsApp and other messaging apps, providing updates on our projects and soliciting donations. 

These efforts have not only raised crucial funds but also expanded our network of supporters. 

## **4. Financial Review** 

## **4.1 Income** 

The total income for the year was [Amount], primarily generated from individual donations, fundraising events, and online campaigns. 

## **4.2 Expenditure** 

The total expenditure for the year was [Amount], with the majority allocated to grantmaking activities. Administrative and fundraising costs were kept to a minimum to ensure maximum impact of donations. 

## **4.3 Reserves Policy** 

Our reserves policy ensures that we maintain sufficient funds to cover at least three months of operational costs. As of 28 February 2023, our reserves stand is not yet determined as our overheads are not considerable to warrant such a policy or safeguard which is in line with our policy.

## **5. Structure, Governance, and Management** 

## **5.1 Governance** 

Orphan Appeal is governed by a board of trustees who are responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the charity. The trustees meet regularly to review the charity’s activities and ensure compliance with our objectives. 

## **5.2 Management** 

Day-to-day operations are managed by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to execute our programs and engage with our supporters. 

## **6. Plans for Future Periods** 

In the coming year, we plan to: 

- Expand our grant-making activities to support more orphans in additional regions. 

- Increase our fundraising efforts, particularly through digital platforms. 

- Strengthen our partnerships with UK-registered charities to enhance the impact of our grants. 

## **7. Conclusion** 

The trustees of Orphan Appeal are proud of the progress made over the past year and remain committed to supporting orphans in need. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our donors, volunteers, and partners for their unwavering support.
